FRISCO — Gainesville dropped two consecutive games in a best-of-three bi-district playoff series with Frisco Lone Star over the weekend.
The Lady Rangers topped the Lady Leopards 7-2 in Game 1 at Gainesville High on Friday before eliminating Gainesville with a 10-0 run-rule win in Game 2 in Frisco on Saturday.
Lone Star will play District 12-3A champion Princeton in the area playoffs this week.
The Lady Leopards were making their first playoff appearance since 1995. That postseason Gainesville fell to Farmersville 16-6 in the opening round.
Lone Star pitcher Hannah Eaton shut down Gainesville over the two games. She pitched 12 innings while allowing only two earned runs. She pitched a shutout in the five-inning Game 2 on Saturday.
In Game 2, Lone Star struck for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Lady Leopards couldn’t recover from there. The Lady Rangers had seven hits in the inning, including two doubles.
Ashley Cantu led the way for Lone Star in Game 2 with three hits and an RBI. Melissa Unclebach was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
Ariannah Kemp was 1 for 1 with a single and a walk in Game 2 for Gainesville. Taylor Llano and Sarah Gerken had the only other hits for the Lady Leopards.
The Lady Leopards had three hits in Game 1 as well, though they were able to scratch across two runs.
Samantha Calhoun had an RBI and went 1 for 3 in the 7-2 Game 1 loss. Llano went 1 for 3.
