Muenster —
Official groundbreaking ceremonies for a new field house, weight room,
concession area, restrooms and locker rooms on the Sacred Heart
Catholic School campus took place July 13.
The $850,000 project has been fully funded by donations from Sacred
Heart supporters and the alumni association. They are being
constructed on the north side of the current gymnasium and will serve
both football and basketball events.
The new facilities were planned after the destruction of the old field
house during the severe storm that hit Muenster in June 2011.
Dr. Rondon, Sacred Heart principal, welcomed advisory board members,
alumni officers and building committee members, as well as students
and parents.
“This is a great day for Sacred Heart Catholic School and Sacred Heart
Parish,” Rondon said. “This is a badly needed facility and we give
thanks to God. As a result of a disaster the opportunity for something
better and greater arose,” Rondon said.
Dr. Rondon thanked the school advisory board for their hard work.
Advisory Board members are Neil Hess, Lydia Springer, Steven Knabe,
Louise Miller, Sandra Walterscheid, John Bartush and Keith Felderhoff.
In addition he thanked Alumni Association officers Vickie Fleitman,
Bekki Jones, Reneta Knabe and Duane Knabe. Thanks was also extended to
the building committee of Darrell Walterscheid, Milton Knauf, Lydia
Springer, Mark Hesse, John Bartush, Jon LeBrasseur Dale Schilling and
special thanks to Debbie Hess and Donna Biffle, primary fundraisers.
“Students, you are the next generation. Take this project as an
example that in the face of crises can come good,” Rondon said.
Before the gold shovels broke ground, Father Ken Robinson blessed the
project and gave thanks for God’s co-workers.
The building project should be completed by December 1.
