Both the Whitesboro Lady Cats and Gainesville Lady Leopards began play in the Whitesboro volleyball tournament Thursday.
In pool play, the Lady Cats advanced to the champions bracket by defeating Pottsboro 25-15, 25-13 and Texoma Christian Academy 25-13, 25-16. The Lady Cats did lose their match to Frisco Heritage 25-12, 25-13.
For Whitesboro, Courtney Davis had 14 kills, 12 aces, 11 blocks and four digs while Kortni Dickson had 12 kills, two digs and a block in the three pool play matches.
Also for Whitesboro (11-8), Katelyn Labhart scored eight kills, seven digs and three aces, Ashley Kirby had six kills and a dig, Rachel Urban notched 14 digs and three aces, Becca Mock finished with 20 assists, seven digs and three aces, Taylor Ezzell had 18 assists, three blocks, two digs and an ace, Taylor Crews had three digs and Tatum Ezzell finished with one block.
As for Gainesville, the Lady Leopards lost all three matches in pool play.
Gainesville (5-11) lost to Gunter in their first match, 25-18, 25-13. In their second match, Little Elm got the best of the Lady Leopards, winning 25-20, 25-21.
In their final match, Paris defeted Gainesville 25-18, 25-9.
Gainesville begins play against Van Alstyne in the challenger’s bracket beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Whitesboro begins play at 2 p.m. against Denison.
