BOYS SOCCER: Gainesville rallies past Lake Dallas

LAKE DALLAS — Chris Govea scored two goals to help lead the Gainesville boys soccer team past Lake Dallas 3-1 on Tuesday.

Govea scored on a penalty kick and a long strike from 25 yards out in what proved to be the difference for the Leopards.

Gainesville (3-1) scored early on with a through ball to Llamani Martinez.  Martinez fought for position with the defender and got his body between him and the goal and was able to finish with a shot

around the goalie.

Lake Dallas returned the goal within the next two minutes.

Gainesville went into the second half with a new focus and controlled the ball possession the entire half.

The second goal came when Hernan Cortez was fouled in the penalty box setting up a penalty kick for Govea.

Govea would strike again a little later with a long range shot 25 yards out. The goalie jumped to save the shot, but the ball glanced off the fingertips of his gloves and found its way to the back of the net.

Gainesville will begin the Lovejoy Tournament on Thursday.
