VIRGINIA JANE WYLIE HOLLAND MELUGIN

Virginia Jane Wylie Holland Melugin passed away on May 13, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Jane and son-in-law, Bob Kilcrease, in Lake Kiowa, Texas, where she had resided with them for six years. Virginia was born on July 21, 1903, to James Alexander Wylie and Mary Pamela Susan Carolyn Bently, better known as “Mollie”, in Russellville, Arkansas. She was the seventh child born to them, but Virginia’s siblings, numbered thirteen by 1917. In 1918, her father, James decided to move his family a bit north of Era where Virginia attended Era High School. She graduated at the age of 18 in the year 1921. On August 13 of that same year, she married Henry Johnson Holland who was a farmer/rancher in the Era community. They moved to the family farm that had been in the Holland family since 1877. Together, they worked on the farm raising crops, cattle and horses. Their family expanded while living there, too. Virginia and Henry had three children, Violet Marie, Eva Jane, and Henry Edwin Holland, better known as “Corky”. Virginia loved the farming and ranching life and remained on the farm until Henry’s death on June 5, 1952. She then moved to Gainesville, Texas, until her marriage, in December 1954, to Dr. Kermit T. Melugin, a Methodist minister. They moved to several different places until his retirement. Upon Dr. Melugin’s retirement, the couple moved to a development called Sherwood Shores on Lake Texoma. When Dr. Melugin died in 1982, Virginia moved back to Gainesville where she remained until 2002. In that year, she once again moved back to the home of her beloved daughter, Jane, and devoted son-in-law, Bob Kilcrease in Lake Kiowa.

Virginia lived a young life surrounded by happiness and love that fitted her well for an adult life of caring and giving. She was an inspiration to untold numbers of people. Family members and her friends always benefitted from her wisdom and her grace. She stood strong in the face of disappointments, illnesses, and heartaches during her life because she was a devoted Christian. She lived the faith she professed, and gave an example for generations to follow. She will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as one who was humorous, positive, sensitive, loving, respected, and blessed.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Bob) Kilcrease of Lake Kiowa, Texas; daughter-in-law, Mary Holland of Gainesville; three step-children from the marriage to Dr. Melugin, Joe Earl Melugin, Sue Melugin Austin and Ramsey Melugin; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
