BILL “SHORTY” EDDOWES
Services for Bill “Shorty” Eddowes, 78, of Gainesville are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Thackerville Church in Thackerville, Okla., with Rev. Mike Sampson of the Thackerville Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Clement-Keel Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Mr. Eddowes died July 12, 2008, at North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville.
He was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Keller to Franklin and Martha (Crisp) Eddowes. On Oct. 15, 1977, he married Melinda McKinney in Gainesville. He was a member of Thackerville Church of Thackerville, Okla., and a retired ranch hand.
Survivors include his wife, Melinda Eddowes of Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Erika Dugger of Clarksville, Tenn., and Thomas Carl and Elisha Eddowes of Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya and Chris Hess of Muenster, and Tara and Troy Berres of Muenster; seven grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Ann Booker of Gainesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Eddowes; brother, Carl Eddowes; and sisters, Nora Eddowes, Louise Eddowes and Johnnie Melton.
Pallbearers are John Murphy, Gene Murphy, Danny Murphy, David Eddowes, John Moore, and Tom Emberton.
Visitation will be at the Clement-Keel Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
GEORGIA McAFEE
Graveside service for Georgia McAfee, 62, of Gainesville are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview with Rev. Josh Carney officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Mrs. McAfee died July 14, 2008, at Denton Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 5, 1945, in Gainesville to George and Oneta Moss Blamire. She was a 31-year employee of Weber Aircraft. She enjoyed attending flea markets, working and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, George McAfee of Gainesville; daughter, Sonia Johnson of Gainesville; son, Jimmy Merrifield of Forest City, Ark.; step-children, Kirley, Curtis, Casey and Kenneth McAfee; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fredda and Jerry Tatum of Gainesville, and Sharlene and Stan Willis of Gainesville; and brother, George Blamire Jr. of Houston.

CHARLES L. BENTLEY
Charles L. Bentley was born at Era, Texas, on Nov. 24, 1917, to Robert A. and Della Bush Bentley.
He graduated from Era Schools after the 10th grade and completed the 11th grade in Gainesville. He graduated from Gainesville Municipal College and attended Texas A&M. He married Emma Jene Knight in Gainesville on March 17, 1940. He was employed by Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company for 39 years, starting as a machinist in the machine shop. The last few years of his employment were spent in the purchasing department. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as an aerial engineer in the United States Army Air Force in Bari, Italy.
He was a member of the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ since 1942. He served as both deacon and elder. He served as director of Bible school for many years and since retirement, served in many areas of work, the latest being as director of The Compassion Center Food Bank.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years; son, Charles Robert and wife, Debra, of Plano, Texas; and daughter, Deborah Jane Garza of Carrollton; four grandsons; three great-grandsons; and brother, Eugene Bentley and wife, Nancy of Era.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bentley; brother, Jack Bentley; and sister, Crystal Hughes.
Pallbearers are Andy Douthitt, Rob Bentley, Rick Bentley, Zachary Garza, Paul Bentley and Van Knight.
Honorary pallbearers are Leon Allison, Everett Bedford, Carl Wessel, Earl Nelson, Bob White, W.C. Jackson, Don Rice and Dan Myers.
He died July 12, 2008, in Sherman. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 at Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, with Leonard Keele officiating under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery.

LAURA JEANE MITCHELL MARNEY
Laura Jeane Mitchell Marney, 74, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Celebration of life service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East.
She was the operations officer for the Gainesville Fuel Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Robert and Clara Vera (Schmidt) Mitchell; and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lacey, Sammie Jo Peters, and Dorothy Helen Felderhoff.
Survivors include her sons, Les L. Logan II of Austin and Logan Murdoch of San Jose, Calif.; sisters, Bernice Mae Duckett and Zoe Ellen Mitchell, both of Wichita.

NORMA A. MANNING
MYRA — Graveside services for Norma A. Manning, 86, of Myra are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fairview Cemetery Pavilion, with Larry Kremling officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Manning died July 12, 2008, at Ashford Hall in Irving.
She was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Ardmore, Okla., to Robert C. and Bartie A. Godfrey Payne.
She was employed as a receptionist and bookeeper in various organizations in Alaska, Arizona and Texas, including the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville. Following her retirement in 1983, she resided in Myra.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Aleca Renee Manning; her parents; her sister, Betty L. Skocpol; and her brother, Robert C. Payne Jr.
Visitation is set following the service at the pavilion.
