New Saint Jo Rodeo royalty named

Special to the Register

Young ladies from as far away as Austin, came to Saint Jo to compete for the title of Saint Jo Rodeo Queen July 30 through Aug. 2.

Competing were Chloe Banks of Austin, Ashley Dennis of Saint Jo, Duke Largo of Decatur, and Kayla Weger of Saint Jo.

Saint Jo High School student, Ashley Dennis, came out on top by placing and earning points in all events with a 3rd in horsemanship, 2nd in personality, 2nd in appearance, and 1st in ticket sales.

Although the competition was fierce, Dennis was able to pull to the lead by 1 point on her closest opponents and took home the title of Saint Jo Rodeo Queen and a brand new WW trailer. The prize was sponsored by 4B Hauling of Sunset, the Saint Jo Riding Club, The Gas Station of Saint Jo, Rumber of Muenster, and North Texas Tire of Decatur.

She was followed by Duke Largo who was first runner-up.

Saint Jo’s Faith Garrett and Riley Caballero of Sunset sold an outstanding number of tickets collectively to compete for the title of Saint Jo Rodeo Princess.

It was apparent by the number of tickets they each sold, that both were serious about attaining the title.

Caballero won the title of Princess by selling a staggering 706 tickets to this year’s rodeo.

She received the customary sash, tiara, and buckle, as well as a trophy saddle donated by the Saint Jo Riding Club.

The sponsors this year were 4B Hauling of Sunset, the Saint Jo Riding Club, The Gas Station of Saint Jo, Rumber of Muenster, North Texas Tire of Decatur, Barfknecht Saddle Shop of Muenster, Cavender’s Work and Western, Tanquility, Texas Turf Supply, and Dolly’s all of Nocona, Teskey’s of Weatherford, Red River Motorcycle Trails, Billy and LouAnn Poynor, and Blossoms n Bloom all of Saint Jo, AGvantage and National Ropers Supply of Decatur, Paul Taylor’s Saddle Shop of Aubrey, Smith Brothers and Foster’s Western Wear both of Denton, and Wayne Williams on behalf of the grandchildren of GW and Nannie Phillips.
