FREDDIE HOWARD “FRED” MCCAIN

GORDONVILLE – Memorial services for Freddie Howard “Fred” McCain, 68, of Gordonville will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Wendyl Glenn of Sherwood Shores Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.

Fred McCain passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas after a painful battle with heart disease.

Surviving him are his wife, Mary Lynn McCain of Gordonville; daughter, Rena McCain McAdams of Whitesboro and aunts, Gwen Snider and Lois Coss of Denton.

CHARLES LEON CUNDIFF

WHITESBORO — Funeral services for Charles Leon Cundiff, 79, of Whitesboro will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Rick Carney officiating.

Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.

Charles passed away on Oct. 15, 2009 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.

Survivors include his daughters, Debbie Cardwell of Weatherford, Kathy Mourot of Abilene, Patti Seyler of Valley View and Charlotte Williams of Whitesboro and brother, J. W. Cundiff of Dallas.

Visitation was from 6-7 p.m. Sunday evening, Oct. 18, 2009 at the funeral home.

EDGAR WYLY DYER

MUENSTER — Funeral services for Edgar Wyly Dyer were Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Muenster ISD Cafetorium with Ralph Gourley as presiding minister. Burial followed at Abel-Shiloh Cemetery, north of Muenster. Services were under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Edgar Wyly Dyer, long time resident of Muenster, passed away on Oct. 14, 2009, at the age of 77. Edgar, son of Elmer and Freda Dyer, was born on June 1, 1932 and was reared in Honey Grove.

A native of Fannin County, Edgar attended school in Honey Grove and graduated in 1949 at the age of 16. He farmed until entering the Army in January 1954. Edgar served in Korea from June 1954 until honorably discharged in Oct. 1955.

Edgar entered East Texas State University in Commerce in Jan. 1956. He received his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Vocational Agriculture in Jan. 1959. Edgar continued at E.T.S.U. and worked on his Master's degree until Aug. 1959. He received his Master's degree in Aug. 1960 with an Ag Ed major.

Edgar Dyer was hired in June of 1959 to be Vo-Ag teacher at Muenster High School (second teacher to be employed by L.B. Bruns after he became superintendent in March 1959). Edgar and his wife, Carol moved to Muenster in Aug. 1959. Mr. Dyer taught Vo-Ag for 29 years before retiring in May 1988. As Vo-Ag teacher, he was sponsor of FFA and coached and trained many different teams involved in FFA. Several students received their Lone Star Farmer degrees under the leadership of Edgar Dyer. He was also the supervising teacher for many students majoring in the field of Vo-Ag from East Texas State University. One of Edgar's most proud and emotional moments came during the 1988 All-Awards Banquet for students of Muenster High School when a plaque and a gift of ostrich boots were presented to him upon the announcement of his retirement.

Edgar Dyer married Carol Rigsby on May 28, 1956. They had two sons, Lenzy and Lyle and one daughter, Lou. They now also have five granddaughters, Laura, Lia, and Lana Heers and Morgan and Hannah Dyer who called him “Handy” because he was just that.

Edgar Dyer received many honors during his life. In 1968, Edgar was named Conservation Teacher of North Central Texas by the Fort Worth Press (from the Upper-Elm Red Conservation District). Also in 1968, he received the “Certificate of Merit” from the Muenster Jaycees. In 1969, Edgar received the “Good Neighbor” award from the Knights of Columbus. Edgar humbly received the Jaycees' “Citizen of the Year” award in February 2005. He served as a member of the City Park Board and as the director of the Cooke County Livestock Show for many years.

For 10 years, he and his students in FFA functioned as the Volunteer Clean-Up Committee for Germanfest and daily kept the festival grounds neat and clean.

Edgar Dyer was an avid sports fan, a gardener, a lawn-keeper, Carol's number one go-fer (go after this/go after that), and a friend to all. He will be affectionately remembered for saying, “What happens in Ag---stays in Ag.” But you, who were there, know the stories.

Visitation for Edgar Wyly Dyer was Thursday, Oct. 15, from 6-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Muenster.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Dyer; son, Lenzy Dyer and daughter-in-law Stacey Dyer of Nocona; son, Lyle Dyer of Muenster; daughter, Lou Heers of Muenster; grandchildren, Laura, Lia and Lana Heers and Morgan and Hannah Dyer; brother, Gerald Dyer of Holly Lake Ranch and sisters, Mary Jean Calvert of Dallas, Frances Thomas of Bossier City and Wanda Marlin of Lake Jackson.

Participating in the “celebration” of Edgar's life was minister, Ralph Gourley; music ministers, Andy Serna and Ed Otto and eulogy, Wayne Klement. Pallbearers (former students) were Don Vogel, Weldon Vogel, Tom Flusche, Jack Flusche, Nick Walterscheid, Gus Ashley, Pat Walterscheid and Kevin Anderle. Honorary pallbearers were brother-in-law Al Treadway, cousin Scott Gibbs and long time friends L.B. Bruns, Kenny Mann, Monte Endres, James Pearce, Dan Boone, Robert McDaniel, Bill Moore, Rudy Koesler and Glenn Richardson.

In lieu of flowers the family requested that donations be made to the Muenster FFA Chapter.
