KENNETH WAYNE GROVES

Funeral services for Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Groves, 48, of Gainesville, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Burial will follow in the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

A visitation will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012.

Kenny was born in Nocona on Dec. 15, 1963.

He passed away on Sept. 13, 2012, in Gainesville.

Kenny was a police officer in Denton County, then moved to New Mexico to continue working in law enforcement, which he loved. His joy was working on, restoring and repairing automobiles, a trade that his dad taught him. Kenny was a very honest and humble man who loved the Lord; we know he is in much better hands with Jesus.

He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Groves of Lake Dallas; daughter, Faith Groves of Denton; son, Kenneth Groves Jr. of Denton; father, Grady Groves and his wife Lynda of Flint; special friends, Kendall and Karen Blakey of Gainesville; and special friend and caregiver, Ramona Puckett of Gainesville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grady and Louise Groves Sr.

BETTY JOAN KING

Funeral services for Betty Joan King are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Saint Jo.

Burial will be in Mountain Park Cemetery.

Services are officiated by Rev. Jeff Roe and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo.

Betty died in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, in Corinth.

Daughter, Sister, Aunt. Betty Joan King, the third child of Olan Anderson King and Ora “Sis” King was born on Jan. 5, 1941, at Illinois Bend in Montague County. Betty graduated from Saint Jo High School, then attended Dallas Baptist College, University of Texas — Arlington, Texas Women’s University and North Texas University. Always the student, Betty had a degree in business, a bachelor’s degree in music, a master’s degree in music education and became a registered nurse. Music was the love of her life, along with her many cats. Betty began her career as a teacher in the Azle Independent School district but soon learned that she was not “school music teacher” material. She went back to school to get several graduate degrees in voice and piano and music education.

In mid-career, she wanted to become a nurse and back to school she went again. She became a registered nurse and retired from her career at the Denton State School. In retirement, she continued her passion for music taking on private students, teaching them voice and piano. She was a proud member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Betty is predeceased by her parents, Olan and Sis King; her older brother, Donald King; and her brother-in-law, Dale Hughes.

Betty is survived by her sister, Louise Hughes of Lake Kiowa, who cared deeply for her; three nephews; four nieces; and many great and great-great-nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Rick Hughes, Terry Hughes, Craig Hughes, Lance Hughes, Grayson Hughes and Houghton Nguyen.     

Contributions may be made to the Illinois Bend Club.

JOHNNY LEE AKINS

DENTON — Funeral services for Johnny Lee Akins, 66, of Denton, are set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Meador-Clement-Keel Chapel with David Gray officiating.   

Mr. Akins died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at his home in Denton.  

He was born Oct. 26, 1945, in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his mother, Christine Akins of Denton; and sister, Darlene Dawson of Katy.

Visitation is set for 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.

Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

STEPHEN CUNDIFF

Funeral services for Stephen Cundiff, 53, of Gainesville, are set for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Meador-Clement-Keel Chapel with the Rev. Sam Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in Illinois Bend Cemetery under the direction of Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home.

Mr. Cundiff died Sept. 9, 2012, at North Texas Medical Center.  

He was born Dec. 17, 1958, in Savannah, Ga.

Survivors include wife, Wanda Cundiff of Gainesville; children, Angella Wilite of Marietta, Okla., and Tiffany Vasquez of Gainesville; father, Lucian C. Cundiff of Lindsay; brother, Jeff Cundiff of Louisiana; and nine grandchildren.



TIMMY WAYNE ELMORE

WHITESBORO — Memorial services for Timmy Wayne Elmore, 59, of Whitesboro, will be held at a later date.  

Cremation is under the direction of Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home.

Mr. Elmore died Monday, Sept. 10,  2012, at Denton Regional Hospital.  

He was born April 16, 1953, in Gainesville.

Survivors include his mother, Opal Elmore of Whitesboro; children, Sonya Elmore and Steven Elmore of Bonham; step-children, Fallon, Rachael and Cullen Bridwell of Gainesville; and siblings, Rita Mitchson of Whitesboro, Donna Moore of Whitesboro, Deborah Young of Whitesboro, Penny Elmore of Gainesville, Danny Elmore of Woodbine and Tony Elmore of Gainesville.

Visitation is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at 422 CR 152, Whitesboro, TX, 76273.



NANNIE MARY IDELL

Funeral services for Nannie Mary Idell, 79, of Gainesville, are set for 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Meador-Clement-Keel Chapel with the Rev. Duke Dowling and the Rev. Hubert Wright officiating.

Burial will follow in Callisburg Cemetery under the direction of Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Idell died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Pecan Tree Health and Rehab Center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Collinsville.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus Idell of Gainesville; children, Paula Hacker of Whitesboro and Wanda Thurman of Callisburg; siblings, Jessie Merle Hodge of Sherman, Eula Lee Johnson of Collinsville and Jasper Cox of Denison; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  

Visitation is set for 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the funeral home.

CHUCK PENDERGAST

MOSS LAKE — Memorial services for Chuck Pendergast, 77, of Moss Lake, is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Pendergast residence on Moss Lake, 273 Butcher Point, Gainesville, TX 76240.

Mr. Pendergast died Sept. 10, 2012, in Gainesville.

He was born July 21, 1935, in Oswego, N.Y.

Survivors include wife, Barbara Pendergast of Moss Lake; children, Will Pendergast of Coppell and Richard Pendergast of Moss Lake; brothers, Ronald Pendergast and Eugene Pendergast; and one grandchild.
