L.F. HANK HANKINS

VICTORIA — Entrepreneur L. F. Hank Hankins, 76, died on July 10, 2008, at his home in Victoria, Texas, after a long battle with cancer.

Hank was born in Atoka, Oklahoma, on August 3, 1931, to Dovie Hall Hankins and David Herbert Hankins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Hankins, and a sister, Mildred Hankins Grey.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; three sons, Jim F. Hankins and wife Lydia, Jay Hankins, and Rian Hankins; two daughters, Jeannie Hankins Birdwell and husband, Gary, and Sherri Hankins; grandson, Malloy Louis Hankins; and mother-in-law, Paralee Cole.

First and foremost, Hank was a devout family man. He never missed an important family event or a milestone in the lives of his children. He served his country as a member of the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. After completing his education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma, he worked for many years at the mid-management level of a major international corporation. His subsequent entrepreneurial ventures in private business included projects in Portugal and Spain for several years, with offices in London. He traveled extensively with his family, visiting all 50 states and a multitude of countries around the globe.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 14, 2008, at Heritage Funeral Home of Memory Gardens in Victoria. The Rev. Dr. William H. Carr officiated, and Robin Lloyd, a longtime family friend, delivered the eulogy. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Hankins, Jay Hankins, Rian Hankins, Gary Birdwell, Michael Ancarrow and Ronnie Acosta.

Donations to Hospice of South Texas in Victoria (800-874-6908) or other charities are appreciated by the family.
