B.J. “JACK” REEVES, JR.
A graveside service for B.J. “Jack” Reeves, Jr., 89, of Gainesville, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Oak Grove Cemetery, led by his brothers of Masonic Lodge #210.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Peace came upon Jack Saturday morning, Feb. 2, 2013. He is now with his beloved Pauline, “together again, forever.”
Jack's generosity and altruism has become well known throughout Cooke County. He was continuously extending help and assistance to anyone and any organization whose need came to his attention. From Meals on Wheels to The Veterans of Foreign Wars and most recently to Abigail’s Arms; from young children to family to the prominent adult, Jack strove to be a part of the comfort and success of very many people of this area. Jack enjoyed work and working hard. One of his greatest pleasures came from seeing a job complete and well done. At the same time he also enjoyed raising and developing show and racing horses and gamecocks. One of his greatest desires was to win the lottery so he could share even more of his good fortune with even more people. Unfortunately, he was never lucky enough to win the big one, but truth be told, we were the lucky ones for having been a part of his life.
Jack was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Dallas, to Burnie J. & Anna Manilla Cunningham Reeves of Gainesville.
He was raised and spent his entire life in Gainesville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II, where he served with distinction as a tech sergeant with Allied Forces in North Africa and Italy. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone on May 11, 1975, after a long career as a telephone repairman and switch room technician, and remained a member of the AT&T pioneers. He was an endowed member of Gainesville Masonic Lodge #210 for more than 65 years. He was also a longtime member of Gainesville VFW Post. Jack was recognized by Star of North Texas for nine years of volunteer work delivering Meals on Wheels and DASH of Gainesville. He also served on the board of directors for the Oak Grove Cemetery and was a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Paula Brown and her husband Ronny of Callisburg, Janet Reeves of Gainesville and Judy Westmoreland and her husband Ted of Callisburg; granddaughter, Dee Ann Abner and her husband Mark, and great-granddaughters Tori and Mati of Howe; granddaughter, Misty Spracklen and her husband Mike and great-grandson Mason of Nevada; sister-in-law, Joanna Reeves and her children Kelly Reeves of Gainesville and Jane Reeves of Deer Park; brother-in-law, Harold Lark and his wife Diane Lark; and their children, Kristen Bateman and Jeff Lark.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Pauline Reeves; his brother Bill W. Reeves; and his parents.
Memorials may be made to the Gainesville SNAP Center, PO Box 1235, Gainesville, TX 76241.
