Mr. Miller died in Denton Sunday morning, March 7, 2010 after a long battle with sickness.
Born in Dallas on Jan. 5, 1938, Lowell was the only child of Lowell F. and Letha Miller. His father passed away when he was three years old. Lowell’s step-father, Jesse G. Majors, raised him and was a true father to Lowell in every aspect.
He grew up in Winnsboro and graduated from Baylor University in 1960 with a B.A. in business. He served seven years in the National Guard including two years active duty.
Lowell followed his step-father’s career path and became a banker. He was an Assistant Vice President of Continental National Bank in Fort Worth. He then worked as a national bank examiner for the National Comptroller at the National Bank of Commerce in Dallas.
He bought the Valley View National Bank in 1970. He loved the people of Valley View and made many lifelong friends there. In 1983, Lowell and Mike Stinson chartered North Texas Bank and Trust in Gainesville. North Texas Bank and Trust was Lowell’s idea and he worked there until retirement in 1997.
Lowell married Wanda McElreath March 11, 1986.
Lowell made many friends in the banking business, helped a lot of people and was always so generous to people in need. He did business the old fashioned way…on a man’s word. He enjoyed helping (or aggravating) his wife when she catered events. He also loved being around children. Wanda kept small children in their home so there were always plenty of kids around for Lowell to spoil, love on and aggravate in his own special way.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Denton; mother, Letha Majors of Denton; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Teresa Lockhart McElreath of Gainesville; grandchildren, Ragon and Reese Anne McElreath of Gainesville; cousin, Robert Miller of Bedford; aunt, Virginia Salmari of Denton and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father; step-father and young son, John Majors Miller.
Pallbearers are Johnny Hunter, Gary Bowman, Monte Haverkamp, Mark Kuntz, Cory Oler, Floyd White, Mike Smith and Tim Luttmer.
Honorary pallbearers are Don Hobbs, Richard Klement, Mike Rigler, Rob Roberts, Bob Grober, Bill Hunter, Barry Hunter, Shane Hunter, Joe Carroll McElreath, Robert McElreath, Doug Lockhart, John Lockhart, James Smith, Doug Selby and all the ladies that worked with Lowell at the banks who were so special to him.
