— MARCELLA “MARCY” BEZNER MARTIN

Graveside services for Marcella “Marcy” Bezner Martin, 82, of Gainesville are set for Friday, June 21, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Kremling officating under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Corinth.

Marcy was born on March 14, 1931, in Cooke County to Fred and Anna Krebs Bezner.

Marcy married Alfred “Buddy” Martin on Aug. 30, 1965, in Kingston, Okla. She worked for many years as a nurse and loved to grow flowers.

Marcy is survived by her husband, Alfred “Buddy” Martin; grandchildren, Melissa and Chris Martin; and a sister, Shirley Martin.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Larry, Danny and Rick Martin; brothers, Don, Floyd, Bill and James Bezner; and sister, Imogen Fuhrman.

OLETA SCHMITZ

Oleta Schmitz, longtime resident of Gainesville passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the age of 90.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church with the interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.

A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. June 21, 2013, at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Oleta was born on July 13, 1922.

She attended school in Myra for 10 years before transferring to Gainesville where she graduated from high school in 1939. She then entered the nurse’s training program at the Gainesville Sanitarium, where she studied for 13 months before the program was disbanded. She then went to work at S. H. Kress and later worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone. She married Ray Bezner in 1943, and they moved up and down the west coast of the United States where he served during the war. Ray died of cancer in 1949. Two years later, on Nov. 15, 1951, Oleta married Freddy Schmitz who remained her life partner for 62 years until his death last year. When the children were young, she worked for Dr. Howard Davenport for five years and was thankful for her nurse’s training.

Oleta was an avid bridge player and was known by many for her ability at the game. She enjoyed cooking for her family, who fondly remember the Sunday lunches at Grandma’s house.

Oleta is survived by two sons, Buster Bezner and wife Marcy and Mike Schmitz and wife Marcia; four grandchildren, Rae Ann Gerken (Jeff), Robby Bezner (Carmen), Melinda Schmitz and Justin Schmitz (Karah); and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah and Mary Gerken, Madison and Blake Bezner and Harper Grace Schmitz. She is also survived by one sister, Treba Dobkins; and many nieces and nephews.

Nephews Tommy Schmitz, Bobby Schmitz, Joe Schmitz, John Schmitz, Steve Schmitz and Brad Crowsey will serve as pall bearers.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Saint Mary’s School, 931 N. Weaver, Gainesville, TX 76240.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy; her parents, Letha and Lee Livingston; and a twin sister who died as an infant.

PEGGY CASE JOHNS

Funeral services for Peggy Case Johns, 71, of Gainesville, are set for 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Chapel with the Rev. Don Yeager officiating. 

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Ms. Johns died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Gainesville. 

She was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Taft, Calif.

Survivors include son, Brady Johns of Cedar Park; brother, Truman Case of Whitesboro; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Abigail’s Arms.                                            



RUBY BERYL WILLIAMS

MOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Funeral services for Ruby Beryl Williams, 78, of Mountain Springs, are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Gainesville Bible Church with Mark Wascom officiating. 

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Denton.

She was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Sophia, W. Va. 

Survivors include husband, Lynn Williams of Mountain Springs; children, Mary Ann Foster of Woodbine, Gail Brodersen of Denton, Pati Akerman of Lisle, Ill., and Danny Williams of Allen; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the NCTC Scholarship Foundation.

LEONARD “SPIKE” YOSTEN

MUENSTER — A funeral mass for Leonard “Spike” Yosten, 99, of Muenster, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with the Rev. Ken Robinson officiating.

Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Muenster.

Mr. Yosten died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Muenster.

He was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Muenster.

Survivors include children, David Yosten of Plano, John Yosten and Diane Grewing of Muenster and Susan Bullion and Deborah Bradford, both of Austin; brother, Lee Roy “Buddy” Yosten of Muenster; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A rosary and vigil are set for 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
