CHARLOTTE WOOD HUNT

Charlotte Wood Hunt, formerly of Lake Kiowa, passed away Thursday morning, July 22, 2010, at 4:50 a.m. at Pecan Tree Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville. She was 94 years old.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee Hunt Dowling of Gainesville; her grandson William Pappas and wife Prescilla of Tempe, Ariz.; niece, Anne Lide Tilton, of Miami Springs, Fla. and nephew, Thomas Edwin Lide of Jacksonville, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Hunt; her parents and sisters.

Visitation for Mrs. Hunt will be Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Services are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hunt was born in Charlotte, N.C. to Guy Edwin and Annie Pearl Bradley Wood on May 29, 1916. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Atlanta, where she grew up along with her sisters, Dorothy Wood Lide and Joanna Elizabeth Wood. Two years after graduating from Girls’ High she married Dowling B. Leatherwood of Gainesville, Fla. who after receiving his master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin, soon became assistant professor of journalism at Emory University in Atlanta. Their daughter, Lee, was born at Emory University Hospital.

Tragically, Dowling died just two-and-a-half years after his daughter’s birth. Charlotte soon secured a job at Atlanta’s Federal Reserve Bank. In 1949 she married Charles Hunt of East Point, Ga.

In 1951 the family’s lives changed when, after a promotion for Charles, they were transferred to El Paso. Later, they moved to Dallas, and following that to Springfield and St. Louis, Mo., then to Pine Bluff, Ark. and then back to Dallas. In 1983, they built a home in Lake Kiowa, where they lived for 23 years, until after Charles’ death. Charlotte lived at the Pecan Tree facility for the last three years of her life.

Noted for her beauty and quick wit, Charlotte had many dear friends in Lake Kiowa, where she especially enjoyed playing golf and attending the Woman’s Club. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Dallas Chapter, Ste. 750, 4144 North Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75204-3208.
