JOHN NEWTON MARSHALL

WHITESBORO – Graveside services for John Newton Marshall, 81, of Whitesboro will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at Martin Oaks Cemetery in Lewisville, with Rev. Tim Whiting officiating. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro.

John passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at his home in Whitesboro.

Survivors include his children, Glenn Marshall of McAlester, Okla., Michael Marshall of Tulsa, Okla., Johna McBee of Whitesboro, Charlotte Suter of Kribbs, Okla., Carol Ann Sowell of Oak Point and Pamela Landers of Whitesboro.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitesboro Senior Citizens Club.

ALETHA MURRY BRYAN

WHITESBORO – Funeral services for Aletha Murry Bryan, 92, of Whitesboro will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating.

Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.

Aletha passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at her home in Whitesboro.

Survivors include a son, Gene Bryan of Whitesboro.

Friends may express their personal condolence at any time at the home of Gene and Connie Bryan at 2408 Jolinda in Whitesboro.

BARRY LYNN BIFFLE

A memorial graveside service for Barry Lynn Biffle, 47, of Gainesville, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 in the Myra Cemetery with Rev. Jim Goodwin officiating.

Services are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Biffle passed away Nov. 23, 2009 in Gainesville.

He was born March 8, 1962 in Gainesville to Earnest David and Jeannie Pierce Biffle.

Mr. Biffle loved building and working with mechanics. He was a true craftsman with numerous skills. He had a great love for animals especially unusual or unique animals.

He is survived by his wife, Clarissa Alanso Biffle of Cebu, Phillipines; children, Lindsay Biffle and David Biffle; mother, Jeannie Biffle; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Sherry Biffle; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Burke Barclay; brother, Brian Biffle and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Honorary pallbearers are Brian Ott, James Calhoun, Breck Montgomery, Mark Edington and Steve Bullard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barry Lynn Biffle memorial fund at the First State Bank.





GENE PORTER

A memorial visitation for Gene Allyn Porter 73, of Gainesville is set for Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 from 2-4:00 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Porter passed away on Nov. 27, 2009 at his home.

Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Porter of Gainesville; sons, Kelly, Keith, Kenneth and Kary Porter all of Gainesville and brother, James Porter of New York.

DALE JOE ROBISON

LOMPOC, Calif. — Funeral services for Dale Joe Robison, 77, formerly of Sanger, are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Dale, a resident of Lompoc, Calif., died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at a hospital in Santa Barbara.

He was born Dec. 18, 1931 to Garland and Ethel Robison in Mountain Springs. Raised and educated in Gainesville, he met and married Bobbye J. Carr on Aug. 6, 1949. They moved to California later that year. He was a general contractor and a member of the Carpenter’s Union #150. He retired in 1976 and moved to his country home in Sanger where he enjoyed raising horses. During his retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling. He returned to California in 2007. Dale was a member of North Avenue Baptist Church in Lompoc.

Dale is survived by his wife of 60 years Bobbye of Lompoc, Calif; sister-in-law, Shirley Clark of Killeen; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Keith Ellis of Lompoc; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Val Robison of Lompoc; six grandchildren, Kristi Crispin, Bobbi Ehrlich, Stephanie Robison, Mike Robison, Megan Robison and Trey Robison; three great-grandchildren, Taylor and Gavin Ehrlich and Alexis Crispin and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Robison in 1992 and a grandson, Jeff Robison in 2008.

Visitation for Gainesville is planned for 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

The visitation for Lompoc, Calif. was scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the North Avenue Baptist Church.





TOMMY E. COGDELL

SAINT JO — Funeral services for Tommy E. Cogdell, 59, of rural Saint Jo are pending with McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo.

Mr. Cogdell died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at his residence near Capps Corner in Montague County.





WALTER JOE HOPFER

HIGHLAND VILLAGE — Funeral services for Walter Joe Hopfer, 88, of Highland Village and formerly of Gainesville will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Lewisville with Rev. Steven Sanders officiating.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Clement-Keel Funeral Home.

Walter Joe Hopfer died Thursday in a Lewisville care center.

Mr. Hopfer was the youngest of six children born to Christian and Marie (Dester) Hopfer on March 27, 1921 at Mulhall, Okla. He served in the United States Army and worked as an electrician for Arco for 39 1/2 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Fern Hopfer on April 11, 1991 and then married Edna C. Hopfer on February 5, 1994 in Dallas.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Hopfer of Highland Village; son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Carol Hopfer of Keller; grandchildren, Greg Hopfer of Lewisville, Christy and Robert Gail of Friendswood; great-grandson, Robert G. Hopfer III; sister-in-law, Ruth Hopfer of Guthrie, Okla; niece, Judy Wood of Dallas as well as Edna’s loving family, Carolyn and Steve Cobb of Highland Village; Bill Oden of Dallas; Stephanie and Lance Cowey and their children Kayla and Lance all of Dallas.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Christian Church of Lewisville, 880 Fox Avenue, Lewisville, TX.







ELSIE “PETE” VIRGINA SAMPLER

DECATUR — Elsie “Pete” Virginia Sampler, 81, a homemaker, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 in Decatur.

Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Saturday, November 28 at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charles Taylor officiating. Interment followed the service in Sycamore Cemetery. Family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Elsie was born January 25, 1928 in Alvord to Jessie Jake and Bessie Pearl Lowery Monroe. She married John Coleman “J.C.” Sampler on November 8, 1960 in Decatur.

Elsie loved quilting, playing cards and time with the family. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her two sons, Phillips Wayne Rackley of Gainesville, Euell Gale Rackley of Chico; daughter, Shawn Renee Barlow of Decatur; brother, Jessie Jake Monroe, Jr. of Forestburg; three sisters, Bula Mae Berry of Nocona, Geneva White and Louise Howard both Alvord; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Scott Rackley, Chad Rackley, Cody Barlow, John Blackburn, Ryan Blackburn, and Brian Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Connor Hosay, Trey Watts, Sean Watts, Mikel Watts and Stephen Privitt.
