KENNETH ROBERT GARRETT

WHITESBORO – Funeral services for Kenneth Robert Garrett, 63, of Whitesboro will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Doyle Henderson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Little Elm Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro.

Kenneth passed away on Nov. 28, 2009 at North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Garrett of Whitesboro; son, Scott Garrett of Lake Mary, Fla; step-son, Sean Cameron of Grant City, Mo; sisters, Gerry Wilder of Temple, Nancy Hudson, Beth Ohauf, Laura Sisk of New Jersey and Karen Rogers of Arizona.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2009 at the funeral home.

H. W. MCKINNEY, JR.

MARIETTA, Okla. — Services for H.W. McKinney, Jr., 88, of Marietta, Okla. will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.

Interment with military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta. Services are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.

Mr. McKinney went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Nov. 29, 2009 in Mercy Health Love County in Marietta after a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born on April 20, 1921 in Wilson, Okla. to H. Wayte and Cleta Balthrop McKinney and lived in Love County for more than 80 years.

H.W. McKinney is known for his family history, being the great-great-great-grandson of Collin McKinney, author and signer of the Declaration of Independence of Texas from Mexico in 1836. His forefather, Collin, was honored by having the county of Collin and the city of McKinney named for him. H.W.’s son, Collin Joe, and grandson, C.J. McKinney, both carry on the family name.

Mr. McKinney, as he was well known by his many students, graduated from Marietta High School in 1939. He attended Eastern Oklahoma A&M; College in Wilburton prior to joining the U.S. Army Air Corps nine days after the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. He served four years as a B-17 crew chief and was awarded numerous citations including the American Theater, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal WWII. H.W. returned to Oklahoma and married Millie Stockton in Ardmore on May 25, 1945. In 1946 he returned to college at Oklahoma A&M; (OSU), graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Education. He also received an M.S. in Biology from Southeastern State University in addition to numerous graduate hours and counseling certification from the University of Oklahoma and North Texas State University. A lifelong educator, H.W. taught school in Marietta, Greenville, Thackerville and Plainview, Okla. High Schools. He also taught one year in Oakland, Calif. and retired after 10 years as teacher and counselor for Gainesville Public Schools.

After retiring from education, he became the first area distributor for Ashley Wood Heaters. H.W. was a farmer and rancher in Love County since 1950, a member of First Baptist Church of Marietta and a deacon at Eastside Baptist Church for many years. He loved to take his children on “vacations” that were actually an extension of his classroom – many miles traveled visiting historical sites and places around the U.S. He and Millie often traveled out of the country with H.W. making two trips to Israel and the Holy Land. An avid historian, H.W. was very active in the development and founding of the Love County Historical Society and Museum. As the patriarch of the McKinney family, he was a beloved and firm foundation for many as they weathered difficult times. He will be greatly missed by his family, church and community.

He is survived by his six children: daughters, Jennifer Fenn and husband Gary of Ardmore, Okla., Pamela Thompson and husband Pat of Midwest City, Okla. and Carolyn Gates and husband, Michael of Tulsa, Okla.; sons, Randy McKinney and wife Janeice, Joe McKinney and Tom McKinney, all of Marietta; one sister, Beth Stone and husband Jack of Ardmore and sister-in-law, Reva McKinney, also of Marietta. As a loving grandfather, he is survived by the following grandchildren: Lisa McComber, David McComber, CPO Donald Fenn, JoAna Walker, Carrie Hakes-Dodd, Clay McKinney, Amber and April McKinney, Daniel and C.J. McKinney, Cheri Thompson Burt and Katie and Molly Gates. In addition, he is survived by 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, four nieces, two nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death in 2002 by his wife of 57 years, Christine Marie (Millie) McKinney; his parents; brother, Thomas B. McKinney and two infant children.

Bearers will be grandsons, David McComber, Chief Petty Officer Donnie Fenn-U.S. Navy, and Clay, Daniel and C.J. McKinney and nephew, Kermit McKinney. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Tom O’Connor, Dr. Kenneth Evans, Clinton Holt, Butch Sykora, Joe Pete Martin, Wayne Bond and Kenneth Perry.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.

LINDA KAY KIRKPATRICK

WHITESBORO — Funeral services for Linda Kay Kirkpatrick, 58, of Whitesboro, are set for Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Isham officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Linda Kay Kirkpatrick was born Dec. 16, 1950 in Gainesville to Joe W. and Ethel Olena Shugart Kirkpatrick. Linda was a member of the Vilott Baptist Church and enjoyed Bible study with her close friends. She owned Kaylena Ranch and raised registered black angus cattle and was a member of the Red River Angus Association & the American Angus Association. Linda was a supporter of Noah's Ark Animal Shelter. She loved animals and whenever she saw a crippled animal, she would take it in, give it medical care and take it to the vet. She worked for the Richardson Police Department when she lived in Dallas and after resigning from the police department she obtained a real estate license and went to work for Remax where she went on to become one of the top real estate agents in Texas. She eventually left Dallas and moved to Bonham where she began her own real estate agency, LK Properties. Linda was a real estate broker for 28 years. Linda loved all of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them when they came to visit.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, Joe W. and Cristina Kirkpatrick of Laredo; her sister, Rachel Kirkpatrick of Laredo, brothers and sister-in laws, Michael and Malex Kirkpatrick of Laredo and Jason and Mandy Kirkpatrick of Laredo; daughter, Marcy Lena Mejia of Ivanhoe; grandchildren, Danny and Lynetta Kirkpatrick of Whitesboro, Faye Ing, Cheyenne Mejia and Jr. Mejia all of Gainesville and her ex-husband, Jose Luis Martinez of Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Pallbearers will be Jason Kirkpatrick, Michael Kirkpatrick, Donnie Shugart, Ronnie Shugart, Ronnie Kirkpatrick and Charles Kirkpatrick.

Visitation was Monday evening, Dec. 1, 2009 from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
