OBITS 10-7

SHARON LOUISE HAUGH

PALESTINE, ILL. — Sharon L. Haugh, 57, lately of Palestine, Illinois died at 1:35 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, after a brief and aggressive battle with cancer.

Born May 14, 1955, in Henderson, Ky., she was the daughter of Harry T. Haugh and Amelia “MiMi” Fisher Haugh of Gainesville.

Sharon attended Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., and upon finishing, moved to Champaign, Ill., where she lived for almost three decades pursuing her profession as a graphic artist. Aside from her work, her many interests included horses, lots of domestic travel, collecting beautiful things and pursuing and completing the Champaign County Master Gardener program, earning her awards for her over-the-top garden.

In 2003, Sharon met her soulmate, folk artist Steve Meadows of Palestine, Ill. Soon after meeting Steve, she moved to Gainesville to care for her aging parents. Even with hundreds of miles of separation, she and Steve would rendezvous and travel the south and southwest exhibiting in juried fine arts shows. Sharon moved to Palestine in 2010, after the death of her parents.  She spent many loving hours creating a gallery for Steve’s work.  Steve would welcome anyone who would like to see the wonderful transformation that she has made as a way of celebrating her life, especially during the Palestine Wine and Arts Festival this weekend.  Sharon has chosen cremation, and there will be no formal services.

Sharon is survived by her soulmate and life partner, Steve Meadows; brother, Jan Haugh (Jana) of Fort Worth; two nephews; one niece; and one great-niece.

Sharon will be terribly missed by all who loved her.
