SAMUEL JOE NORTON
GORDONVILLE — Memorial services for Samuel Joe Norton, 78, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Mike Bentley and Rick Ramsey officiating.
Visitation services will be held prior to the memorial services from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
He passed away in Denton on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.
Samuel was born on Aug. 2, 1935, to William Henry and Julia Ann (Handley) Norton in Clay City, Ill.
He married Norma Rhoads on Feb. 21, 1954, in Clay City, Ill. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his grandchildren, making sure he was at every game, every school event and every opportunity to cheer them on. He was a member of the North Union Street Church of Christ in Whitesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Norma June Norton of Gordonville; son, Alan Norton and his wife Denise of Brenham; daughter, Leah Daily and her husband Michael of Krum; and son, Neal Norton and his wife Janice of Plano; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Norton) Radowski, Jarod Norton, Andrea (Norton) Ryan, Cody Trim, David Trim, Sammantha Daily and Hannah Daily; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lillian, Wyatt, Jameson, Shaun and Kayley; sister, Jean Ann Foster of Clay City, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Julia Norton; and his brothers, William Norton and James Norton.

BILLY EUGENE SMITH
Billy Eugene Smith, 80, of Gainesville, finally lost his battle with complications from diabetes.
He passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Billy was born to Arthur L. “Ott” Smith and Lovey Christine Head on April 26, 1933.
He lived in Gainesville all of his life. Billy spent two years in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as a painter with his dad until he joined the Santa Fe Railroad. He retired from Santa Fe Railroad after working “39 years, seven months and three days!”
Survivors include his daughter, Carla Smith of Gainesville; sons Gregory Smith of Gainesville, Jeffery Smith and wife Katy, also of Gainesville; one sister, Dortha Leach and husband Lloyd; brothers, David Smith and wife Virginia of Fort Worth, Teddy Smith and wife Martha of Garland and Roy Allen Gray and wife of Tammy of Gainesville; sister-in-law, Jane Voyles; brother-in-law, James Briley; three granddaughters, Victoria, Eleanor and Jacqueline; and several nieces and nephews.
Billy was preceded in death by wives, Geraldine and Carolyn; his parents; three brothers, John and A.D. Smith and Chris Gray; and three sisters, Elsie Smith, Joyce Briley and Neita Hall.
Billy was a Christian, a great son, father, grandfather and brother. He will be missed.
Visitation will be at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Chad Briley, Byron Ensey, Doug Fain, Dennis Smith and Toby Fuhrmann.

BETTY SUE MELTON PARKHILL TAYLOR
Born July 29, 2951, in Chickasha, Okla., to Harold C. Melton and Peggy Parrish, Betty began her new journey on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at 9:29 p.m.
She leaves behind her loving husband, James Taylor; six kids; and many grandchildren.
She is going to be deeply loved and missed by many family and friends. May she forever rest in eternal peace.
