LORETTA ALEXANDER

 Funeral services for Loretta Alexander, 94, who passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at age 94, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with burial to follow in Era Cemetery.

She was born near Graham on Feb. 26, 1918, to John and Breckie Ellen Couger.

She had six brothers, including Gene, John Vernon, Leroy, Frank, Bill and Rupert. Loretta graduated from Graham High School. She worked during World War II for Standard Oil, and was active in the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Gainesville.

In 1948, Loretta married Max Kenneth Alexander of Era, a decorated veteran of World War II, who preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2001. Loretta and Kenneth were engaged in farming and ranching in the Era community for many years where both were involved in civic and community affairs including the Era Community Club and the Era Methodist Church.

In recent years, Loretta resided in Wheeler House in Gainesville and the Willow Bend Assisted Care Community in Denton.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Helen Roberson of Denton, Reba Handwerk of Amelia, Va., Jane Alexander of Valley View and Mary Alexander of Gainesville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

EMOGENE GILMER

Funeral services for Emogene Gilmer, 100, of Gainesville, are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Aubrey Spires and Harlan Spires officating.

Burial will follow in New Resthaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilmer died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Muenster Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1912, in Thackerville, Okla.

Survivors include children, Bonnie Colwell of Fort Worth and Helen Kinne of Denton; siblings, Edna Litsey of Hurst, Aubrey Spires of Gainesville, Harlin Spires of Gainesville and Jimmy Spires of Addison; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Stanford House in Gainesville.

JOETTA ANN LANCE

Visitation services for Joetta Ann Lance, 65, of Gainesville, are set for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lance died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Gainesville.  

She was born June 26, 1947, in Louisville, Ky.

Survivors include husband, Frank E. Lance, Sr. of Gainesville; children, Frank E. Lance Jr. and Loris Marshall of Gainesville,

Wendy Gilbert of Vernon, Albert Jones and Julie Jones of Mesquite, Verlon Bo Jones, Jr., Marshall Thomason and Priscilla Pendleton of Dallas, William Henry Thomason II of Mt. Washington, Ky., Steve Edward Lance of Sanger and Glenn Earl Lance of Valley View; siblings, Deborah Day Burnett of Louisville, Ky., Tommy Ackerman of Brandenburg, Ky., and Nell Thacker of The Villages, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
