MAYME VIRGINIA BEAVER GILLIS
GOLDTHWAITE — Mayme Virginia Beaver Gillis of Goldthwaite, and formerly of Gainesville, passed away peacefully at Goldthwaite Nursing and Rehab on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
She was 99 years old.
Mayme was born Jan. 4, 1914, at her family’s farm in Gainesville to General Sherman and Freda Tiede Beaver.
She attended Rock Creek School. She met the love of her life John Malcolm Gillis at a family party and they were married on April 24, 1936. They had two daughters, Frieda Ann and Clara Virginia. They traveled the United States with John’s career, finally settling in Silsbee. Mayme was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. Grandson Dave Allen Johnson led the service and music was provided by great-granddaughters Kelsey and Landry Johnson at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville.
Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Harold Brown, LeRoy Hanzel, Mike Beaver, Neil Plumlee, Dave Johnson and Landon King.
Honorary pallbearers were David Bever and Kenneth Harper.
Mayme was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, John Malcom Gillis; her daughter, Clara Virginia Gillis King; and 13 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Frieda Ann Gillis Johnson of Goldthwaite and son-in-law Paul King of Midland; grandchildren, Donna Johnson of Goldthwaite, Dave Johnson and wife Andrea of Midland, Staci King and husband Landon of Sweetwater and Deanne King of Odessa. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Landry Johnson of Goldthwaite, and Balin, Brecken, and Brennan Reyes of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mayme was a loving wife and mother and very dedicated to her numerous family members. She was known for spending many hours attending to family in sickness and in health. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening (including mowing and raking leaves). Mayme was serious about her sports and was a true patriot. She was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville. Her guide to live by was Proverbs 31:10-31

LULA “SKIPPI” COX
Funeral services for Lula “Skippi” Cox, 89, of Gainesville, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with David Gray and David Beck officiating.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, before funeral services take place.
Lula was born in Royce City on Dec. 13, 1923, to Lee and Ethel Jenkins Gilbert.
She passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at NTMC in Gainesville.
Skippi married Edwin R. Cox on Dec. 13, 1945, in Gainesville. She was a member of the former Broadway Church of Christ and the Hillcrest Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald “Wally” and Janet Cox of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Kelvin and Darlene Cox of Moore, Okla.; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jason Pritchard of Blue Ridge; daughter-in-law, Tina Cox of Muenster; grandson, Derek Cox and his wife Bonnie; grandson, Bryan Cox and his wife Corrie; granddaughter, Lacey Lane and her husband Scott; granddaughter, Katie Steinert and her husband Brad; grandson, Ryan Cox; granddaughter, Angie Cox and her fiance' Billy Chapman; granddaughter, Amanda Andrews and her husband Justin; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by very dear friends Lloyd and Janis Bewley, Verna Williams and Jean Bloodworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin R. in June 1997; son, Clifford Elson Cox in February 2010; brother, Claude Escul Gilbert; brother, Robert Lee Gilbert; sister, Lorene Walling; and sister, Mary Ruth Anderson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

ARVIL GENE BRACKEEN
Memorial services for Arvil Gene Brackeen, 58, are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Apostolic United Pentecostal Church in Whitesboro with pastor Kelly Gray officiating under the direction of Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Brackeen died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.
He was born in Gainesville.

COLBY PARSONS
We said goodbye to our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, Colby Parsons, on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.
Services for Colby will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Eberhart officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
At 22 years old, Colby’s life came to an end as a result of a vehicle accident.
The youngest of five children, Colby was born April 23, 1990, to Robert and Sharon Parsons.
He attended J.M. Lindsay Elementary School until 1999 when he transferred to Muenster ISD, where he graduated in 2008. He was employed at Muenster Milling and Doc’s Bar and Grill in Muenster. In 2010, Colby was employed with Halliburton.
Survivors include his mother, Sharon Parsons Hess of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Shonna Parsons of Whitesboro; brother, Jeff Parsons of Whitesboro; brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Terria Parsons of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and Samuel York of Myra; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Colby was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Parsons; and nephew, Jonathan S. Parsons.
Pallbearers will be close friends.
