Patriotic celebration
In observance of the 4th of July, one of our veterans, George Garner, held the American flag while we gave the Pledge of Allegiance and sang The Star Spangled Banner. At the grand piano, Suzanne Carpenter played “America the Beautiful” and our Music Director, Benny Strong, sang “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory of the Lord.” The congregation sang “God of Our Fathers and My Country Tis of Thee.”
We wished Wanda Petway's granddaughter a happy 4th birthday on the 4th of July.
Rick Collett and Choice Stephens took up the offering while the Harendt sisters, Raleigh and Harley, pulled the little red wagon around collecting the pennies for Penny Sunday.
Bro. Bill Black's sermon was from Nehemiah 12:40-43, the celebration after the wall around Jerusalem was rebuilt. It is time for us to return to the principals of our founding fathers, Bro. Black reminded us. In this story from Nehemiah, not one but two choirs sang and the people rejoiced. They had done what was right at great labor and expense and God blessed their efforts.
Choice Stephens led the dismissal prayer.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
While the Pastor Search Committee is working hard to find the pastor God wants in this church, the committee has provided truly fine guest pastors for our Sunday services. This Sunday, July 3, 2011, Brother Milton Pledger brought the message. He will always be a beloved part of the history of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Deacon Jim Batten led the "Washing of the Word" with scripture from Zechariah 4:5-7. Deacon and Music Director Lester Haynie led the singing accompanied by Becky Shelly on the piano. Deacon Gerald Teel reported from the Pastor Search Committee.
Bro. Milton's sermon was taken from Daniel, Chapter Two. The Title for this sermon is "There Is a God in Heaven." He also quoted from Galations 6:10, 1 John 2, 1 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Corinthians 10:13, and Matthew 7:7.
The themes interwoven throughout these scriptures are reassuring to Christians and those who want to be Christians. God knows all about you. He planned you, and He loves you. He is a God of records, but also of redemptions. As a Christian, you have an advocate with the Father through Jesus, the Son. Remember, the grace of God will suffice; He is with you always.
