Callisburg United Methodist Church
The Callisburg United Methodist Church extends an invitation to attend Sunday School which begins at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday morning and church services being at 11 a.m.
The church is located at 123 Oscar Cole Street in Callisburg.
Pastor John Gowling gave the Call to Worship and this being the first Sunday of the month The Callisburg United Methodist Church celebrated communion. Pastor Gowling was assisted by Wayne and Ruth Ann Dodson in serving communion to the people. Everyone in the congregation is invited to partake in communion at the Methodist Church.
Ruth Ann Dodson led in the Affirmation of Faith. Kim Sewell had Children’s Time and explained to the children that our spirit is somewhat like a garden which must be weeded and taken care of in order to produce good fruit.
Pastor John read scripture from the New Testament, Mark 12:28-34. His sermon was titled “Reigniting You Passion for God” and spoke of how we must have passion for Christ and taught the congregation that our purpose in life is to worship God.
A Father’s Day Breakfast will be at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, June 17 at the fellowship hall.
The church will begin Vacation Bible School on June 18th at 9 a.m.

Central Baptist Church
Central Baptist Church at 1030 N. Morris St. in Gainesville will host a vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 11-15.
Four-year-olds through fifth graders are invited to attend “Sonlight Express.” Organizers note that four-year-old attendees should be trained to use the restroom.
The children will be in classes in the building for the Bible lessons, signing and memory verses. They will receive tickets for attending, memory verses, bringing Bibles and bringing visitors. Then they will go under the pavilion to use their tickets for games and prizes.
Refreshments of snowcones, cotton candy and popcorn will also be provided under the pavilion.
The doors will open at 5:50 p.m. We ask that all children have their names and addresses and phone numbers with them.
Our buses will run regular routes. If you need a ride or have questions, call the church phone at 665-9815. If no one answers, leave a message. Someone will return your call.

Christian Science Society
On Sunday, June 10, the subject for our weekly lesson will be “Mortals and Immortals” which will include quotations from the Bible and correlative passages from “God the Preserver of Man” by Mary Baker Eddy, our founder, which explains the readings from the Bible from a spiritual perspective.

Faith Lutheran Church
Faith Lutheran Church invites everyone to join our worship service on Sunday morning. . The traditional worship service will begin at 10:15 a.m. The sermon will be based on the Gospel of Mark 3: 20-35. Sunday School for children and youth and Bible Study for the adults will begin at 9 a.m. The Adult Bible Class will be led by John Morris, who will continue with the study of David‘s life. Active Christians Together (ACT)
On Saturday, June 9, ACT (Active Christians Together) will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. Hosts for the evening will be Joan and David Lee and Carol and Bob Haubold. After a lovely meal, the game “LRC” will be played and the money collected will be donated to the youth for their mission trip.

Helping Hands of Faith
Helping Hands of Faith, a mission of Faith Lutheran Church, is located at 719 Smith St. in the old Frankie Schmitz Shoe Factory building. Run by volunteers, this thrift store uses its profits for donations to the church and community. Funds are donated to organizations such as Stanford House, ABBA Women’s Center, Cooke County Home Hospice, CASA, CPS, Camp Sweeney, VISTO, and several area Volunteer Fire Departments. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you have items to donate, bring them to the store on regular store days. If you have large items that need to be picked up, call 668-4393.

First Christian Church
First Christian Church is located at 401 N. Dixon in Gainesville. Sunday School for all ages starts at 9 a.m., with worship at 10 a.m. where we celebrate the Lord’s Supper with an open communion table each Sunday. Sunday’s message by Rev. Movie Night
This Friday (June 8) is Movie Night in the CLC at 7 p.m. We will be showing the movie, “Courageous.” Admission is free, but we will be selling popcorn, sodas, and movie candy. Proceeds will go to the clothes pantry for school children.

Worship schedule
Our 8:30 worship is a little more relaxed but always includes beautiful music. The 10:45 service is traditional and features hymns, organ, piano, and choir and also often includes music from our handbells, children’s and youth choirs. Children are welcome in worship and we include a Children’s Sermon at each service. We offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

VBS
First UMC is gearing up for Vacation Bible School (VBS) June 18-22 from 9 a.m. to noon. Children ages three years through completing fifth grade are welcomed to attend. Children must be registered in order to attend VBS. This program is open to the public. If you are able to volunteer time please call the church office at 665-3926 from 9-4 p.m. Monday – Thursday.
Learning Tree
The Learning Tree Preschool has openings for both three and four year olds for the 2012-13 school term. Your child or grandchild must be three or four years of age by Sept. 1, 2012 to be eligible to enroll in the program. Second Time Around
Second Time Around is a re-sale ministry that carries a wide variety of gently used clothing, books, household items, and furniture and has been serving the community and those in need since the 1970’s. Eula West was responsible for starting what was a small mission service and it has grown to serve more than just Cooke County. Profit from Second Time Around sales is given to mission projects of the church which include global-wide missions. Many needy persons are also helped free of charge. The store is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Second Time Around is located at 105 S. Denton Street and welcomes donations and shoppers.
Youth meetings
On Sundays all youth meet for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. Youth hours are as follows. The Jr. High youth will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and on Sundays all youth will meet at 5 p.m. with snack supper from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. followed by a youth meeting until 7 p.m. During the month of June there will be no UMYF meetings held.

Bro. Bill Black’s sermon was from Ephesians 3:14-20 and Zephaniah 3:17. When we have nothing left but our faith, it is then we will find that faith is sufficient. God rejoices over us. How sweet it is when we come to worship Him of our own free will. He gives us the riches of his glory.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Mt. Pleasant’s new pastor, Chuck Williams, is not only preaching fine sermons from the New Testament about how to be an effective, unified church; he is inspiring the church to try some new ideas. One example is renting a Bouncy House for our upcoming Family Fun Day. Sally Teel has organized an event for families on Saturday, June 9, from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, drinks, popcorn and balloons. Games with prizes and crafts will be part of the program. Parents with children of all ages are welcome Parents are asked to stay with their children as no nursery will be provided for this event.

New Life Bible Church
“Welcome to the Real World”
Speaking from Philippians 4:1-9, Pastor Andy Anderson requested the fellowship to think about what they consider their “real world.” In this scripture, Paul is urging two of the ladies of the church to get along. “He is not just pleading with them to ‘get along’” explained the pastor, “but to focus on the Lord. Everything else should be so small in our lives that it doesn’t really matter.”
Pastor Andy went on to impress upon the group that we as Christians must not put on that “smiley face” – that “mask” – as we head out the door to church, but instead we must trust our fellow believers enough to be transparent with them. We all have struggles, but we must be honest with each other, not afraid of being judged. “Sometimes it takes a congregation – a fellowship – to help someone heal…coming alongside them. The fellowship must be involved in our lives. We have one thing in common – our faith in Jesus Christ. This is what brings us to be a light to each other.” commented the pastor. “These ladies weren’t bad people (because they were arguing). They were focusing on the world, and had forgotten to keep their focus on the Lord. They had forgotten that they were yokefellows, that they were joined because of Christ in them.”
Pastor Andy went on to say, “When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord, God gives us Himself, in the Holy Spirit. The Helper is the same One who will stay with us through eternity. As long as we are focused on Him, this is the ideal life. Why do we sometimes lose this ideal life? It’s because we focus on the world, not on Him. Serving Him is about being so much in love with the Lord, that our real world is Him. He is the real world – the ideal. We now live by faith in the Son of God. We don’t have to be a part of those things that are constantly tearing us up – the trials and struggles…Real life for you and me is the ideal life through the Holy Spirit. All we have to do is keep our attention on Him. There will be trials and struggles, but not because he hates us, but because He loves us. He is with us. Think of the 23rd Psalm. I can always rejoice in the Lord because He will never leave me or forsake me. Live a life that is so much in the Spirit that we don’t have to worry about things, because He is in us. Focus on Him. He is always with us.
“Do you know what truth is? Do you know the truth of Jesus Christ in your life? Do you think only of Christ as a symbol in your life, or do you have a relationship with Him? Sometimes we come into church and sit very quietly, thinking He won’t notice we have sin in our lives, then leave, saying, ‘I’ve been to church’, then take the mask off as we walk out the door. Church, pray for each other. Help each other in the Lord. If we do this, we will have this comfort of the Lord, we won’t be anxious, and we can trust! We are all sinners saved by grace. Where I may need an encouragement today, you may need encouragement tomorrow.”
Pastor Andy ended his teaching Sunday by quoting Galations 6:1-2, “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” He then exhorted the church once again to be transparent with each other, allowing us to pray and petition for one another.
Women’s Ministry
June 7 saw the women of New Life Bible beginning a new book study, which will be Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. It’s still not too late to get in on the study, led by Kim Wilson, based on the book, “Made to Crave”, which will teach how to turn your desires away from cravings and toward Christ. Women throughout the community are invited to join this study.
Church Workday
Tomorrow is a big church workday. Beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting all day, the fellowship will meet to take care of several projects needing attention, from landscaping on the outside to painting and trimming on the inside, and everything in between. Food will be provided, and it’s always a lot of fun working beside each other. Come enjoy the fellowship, and add to the “many hands” which will make “light work!”
Weekly Men’s Breakfast Coffee
The men of NLBC meet every Saturday from 7 to 8 a.m at the church for coffee, fellowship, and a time of study and prayer. Please come, and feel free to bring a friend to this growing fellowship.
VBS
The annual NLBC Vacation Bible School will be in the evenings of July 9-13. The theme this year is “The Fruit of the Spirit,” and will include “fruit pickers” and “The Hootenanny Band.” It will be a lot of fun, and the children will get real bible teaching.
Adult Bible Fellowship
Geoff Haberman is leading a Sunday morning bible study each Sunday at 9:30 in room 204. This is an interactive bible study which helps all those attending to increase their understanding of God’s Word. The fellowship is currently studying the book of Deuteronomy.
High School Youth
Youth leaders James and Alison Lewis meet with the high school youth in the outer building every Sunday morning at 9:30, for an invigorating bible study. The high school also meets on Wednesday evenings at the Lewis’ home, learning how to study their bibles. This is very important to everyone to learn, so they can build a foundation of knowledge about the Lord and their faith, growing their relationship with the Lord.
Junior High Youth
The junior high youth meet on Sunday morning as well, and are currently learning the foundational principles of the Old Testament, relating that knowledge with the New Testament, and growing their relationship with the Lord. Wednesday evenings the junior high youth participates in the AWANA program.
New Life Family Prayer
Each Sunday morning those wishing to join in corporate prayer are invited to come together in one of the front hall Sunday school rooms from 9 to 9:30. This is an opportunity to lift our church and our leadership up in prayer, as well as others who come to mind. Sunday school for all ages, toddlers through adults, begins immediately after the prayer time. A nursery is offered throughout Sunday morning, and during the church service. Children’s Church is also offered for the children toddler-aged through pre-school.
State School Ministry
Every 4th Sunday of the month members of New Life Bible meet after church to minister to the young men at the Gainesville State School.If you feel called to participate in this ministry, please see Robert Gleaton at the church.
AWANA
NLBC believes in preparing the young people for battle as they go out into the world. AWANA encourages children and youth to learn God’s word through memorization, reinforcing lessons, and fun games and activities. The AWANA program is on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and includes children who turned three by September 1st, as well as Junior High students. AWANA is on hiatus for the summer, but will return when the school year resumes.
Nursing Home Ministry
New Life Bible is involved in a ministry to the people of one of the local nursing homes. The young people have “adopted” three of the residents who might not have friends or family to check in on them, and will be visiting them frequently. Please see the youth department director, Kimberly Wilson, for details on helping with this ministry.
Praise and Worship
Steven Dulock and the praise team use their God-given talent to lead the congregation in contemporary praise and worship every Sunday morning before the church receives the Word of God. Everyone is invited to experience this time of praise, lifting your voice to our Creator.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available at St. Mary’s. Each parishioner is invited to spend one hour of prayer before The Blessed Sacrament first Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm-9pm and First Fridays from 9:30am-12:00pm. Adoration is a beautiful, quiet time to spend with Jesus in prayer or meditation.
Altar Society
The Altar Society is a ministry of women of the parish, who pray for each other and all of the parish family, maintain the Altar linens, candles, flowers and decorations used for the praise and glory of God our Father at the celebration of the Mass. Members of the Altar Society pray the rosary each Saturday before the 4pm Mass, beginning at 3:30pm.
Knights of Columbus
The mission of the Knights of Columbus, council 1167 is to help Catholic men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual encouragement, to promote closer ties of fraternity among them, and to set up an elementary system of insurance so that the widows and children of members in the group who might die would not find themselves in dire financial straits. Whaley United Methodist Church
This Sunday, June 10, is a very special time in the life of Whaley UMC. We will kick-off the celebration of our 125th anniversary. During our Celebration Worship at 10:30 a.m. we will have a historical moment featuring the origins of the church in 1887 and the fire which leveled the first building in 1913. The service will be followed by a covered-dish luncheon celebrating not only the anniversary, but also the return of our pastor Rev. Dr. Chuck Aaron for another year of ministry with us at Whaley UMC. Whaley's own musical ensemble, Remembrance, will provide the entertainment.
Pastor Chuck’s sermon this week is entitled “Whose Side is Jesus On?” and is based on Mark 3. In the scripture, Jesus’ own family accuses him of being out of his mind. The religious leaders of the time accuse him of being in cahoots with the demonic forces. Why would Jesus' healing ministry cause such a reaction? Is the church crazy to think we can make a difference in the world? Bring your family and join us this Sunday for Celebration Worship as we explore these questions. The service will feature Kid Time and excellent music.

Upcoming Events
Operation Overboard Vacation Bible School at Whaley UMC will take place June 11-15 from 6-8 p.m. All children 4 years of age through fifth grade are invited to join us as we dive into the waters of God’s Word.
Whaley Youth will depart for a mission trip to Oklahoma City June 21-24. There they will work with special needs children, a homeless ministry, and the regional food pantry.
As a part of the 125th anniversary celebration there will be historical moments in each worship service throughout the summer and former Whaley ministers Rev. Dr. Keith Payne Boone (July 15) and Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby (August 12) will fill the Whaley pulpit once again. The celebration will culminate Saturday, Aug. 25 and Sun. Aug. 26. There will be an indoor picnic and old-fashioned Gospel Sing on Saturday and Celebration Worship led by Bishop Earl Bledsoe featuring a reunion choir on Sunday. The service will be followed by a meal in the Dome.
