The love of God is demonstrated in the Callisburg United Methodist Church and you are invited to come.  Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. for all ages, and church services begin at 11 a.m. each Sunday morning.  Come and worship with us.

This Sunday morning service was opened with singing.  The Acolytes, which were Abigail Pollard and Kirbee Webb, lit the candles. There was prayer and the Affirmation of Faith was declared by the congregation.

Then children’s time was given by Polly Williams and she read scriptures out of Matthew about Jesus as a small boy.  The whole church prayed for the needs of many.

Pastor Kathy Brown’s sermon for the congregation was titled “The Winter of the Heart.”

This Sunday was Communion Sunday and the congregation was served by Brand and Doneé Webb along with the Pastor.

Ushers for the month of January are Larry Wallace and Dean West.

Calendar:  Confirmation classes will be starting back on January 13th from 4 to 6 p.m.

Faith Lutheran Church

Faith Lutheran Church invites everyone to join our worship service on Sunday morning. The traditional worship service will begin at 10:15 a.m. The sermon will be based on the Gospel of Luke 3: 15-22. Sunday School for children and youth and Bible Study for the adults will begin at 9 a.m. John Morris will be leading the Adult Bible Class in a study of the Minor Prophets. For those who wish to arrive at 8:45 a.m., coffee and fellowship will be shared. A nursery will be provided.

On Saturday, Jan. 12, ACT (Active Christians Together) will meet with Merle Shinpoch and Donna Maschmeier preparing a most delicious meal for the group. Members and guests will then participate in games and fellowship.

On Wednesday, Jan. 16, the Ladies Bible Study group will meet at 9:30 a.m. to continue a study of the book of 1 Corinthians.

Helping Hands of Faith, a mission of Faith Lutheran Church, is located at 719 Smith St. in the old Frankie Schmitz Shoe Factory building. Run by volunteers, this thrift store uses its profits for donations to the church and community. Funds are donated to organizations such as Stanford House, ABBA Women’s Center, Cooke County Home Hospice, CASA, CPS, Camp Sweeney, VISTO, and several area Volunteer Fire Departments. Regular store hours are 10:00 A,M. until 2:00 PM. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you have items to donate, bring them to the store on regular store days. If you have large items that need to be picked up, call 668-4393.

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church welcomes you to worship with us Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. We are located at 214 S. Denton Street. Childcare is available for ages five and under.

Our 8:30 worship is a little more relaxed but always includes beautiful music.  The 10:45 service is traditional and features hymns, organ, piano, and choir and also often includes music from our handbells, children’s and youth choirs. Children are welcome in worship and we include a Children’s Sermon at each service.  We offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

Join us this Sunday, January 13, for worship at either 8:30 or 10:45 a.m. Rev. Don Yeager’s sermon is titled, “I Have Called You by Name,” based on Isaiah 43:1-7.  We will observe a Service of Baptismal Renewal as we remember the baptism of Jesus at the beginning of his public ministry.  There will also be a reception between services honoring two members of our church staff.  Patsy Morris, our Director of Christian Education, is retiring after seventeen years of service.  Daniel Banke is moving to another state after four years as our Director of Music Ministries.

GriefShare began a new series of weekly classes starting on Tuesday, January 8, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The series lasts 13 weeks. Jo Brannan is leading this series. Contact the church office for more information.

The Mizpah Circle will be meeting on Monday, January 21, in the church Library for a brief meeting and a “Call to Prayer”. The group will them move to the kitchen to prepare casseroles for use during the year.

Gwen’s Group has a trip planned on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The group will have a special tour given at the Morton Museum. They will speak about, “Patriots, Indians, and Women, Cooke County 1862 – a synopsis of the ‘Great Hanging.’” There is no fee for this event. Due to limited parking and winter weather we will vanpool to the museum. Afterwards, Robin and Cathy Brown, invite you to have lunch at their home. Sign-up sheets are available in the Sunday School classrooms and Pecan Street entrance table.

Second Time Around is a re-sale ministry that carries a wide variety of gently used clothing, books, household items, and furniture and has been serving the community and those in need since the 1970’s. Profit from Second Time Around sales is given to mission projects of the church which include global-wide missions. Many needy persons are also helped free of charge.  The store is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Second Time Around is located at 105 S. Denton Street and welcomes donations and shoppers.

The youth hours for Winter are Jr. High youth meeting on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. No snack supper will be served. On Sunday’s Youth in handbells will meet from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. followed by all youth UMYF from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Snack supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 16, there will no UMYF as Shawna is at a conference. Grand Avenue Baptist Church

Welcome to our new member, Sue Shinpaugh.  We will be praying for you. We will have an ordination service Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m.

Suzanne Carpenter, Benny Strong and Caroline Edwards are starting a Youth Music Group for children in second grade and older.

Randy Mask opened the Morning Worship with prayer.  Rick Collett and Choice Stephens took up the offering. Hannah Green pulled the little red wagon around to collect the pennies.  Our Minister of Music, Benny Strong, sang “You Are Worthy” a capella as the offering was taken.

We will be starting a new Bible study at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays using The Story, the Bible told in story form without chapter and verse.  Sign up in the foyer if you are interested in joining this class.

GABC is located in the 600 block of North Grand Ave. with off-street paved parking and entrances on the east side, on Clements Street.

We start Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with coffee and breakfast in the Fellowship Hall followed by Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 a.m. and Morning Worship at 10:40 a.m.  Evening Worship is at 6 p.m. in the little chapel.

Tuesday at 7 p.m. our Grief Support Group meets in the Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday at 7 p.m. we have Prayer Meeting and Youth Get-together in the Fellowship Hall.

Our Nursery opens at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday and we have a Children’s Church for the older children during preaching time.

New Life Bible Church

The Ministry, The Mission, and The Motivation

Pastor Andy Anderson continued the study through Mark this past Sunday, teaching from Mark 1:9-20.  

Speaking of Jesus’ baptism, Pastor Andy pointed out that Jesus was sinless – He didn’t have to be baptized. “By being baptized, he was validating the ministry of John… Jesus was also baptized because He did a lot of things to relate to humans and our sin. He was sinless.”

Couples’ Retreat

Plans are underway for a couples’ retreat Jan. 25 and 26 at Lone Oak Ranch and Retreat near Gainesville. The theme is “Love and Respect”, based on the study by Emerson Eggerich. Area couples are invited to participate. Please email the church or talk to Mike Pulec for more information.

There is no fee for those who do not plan to stay at the Ranch. There are scholarships available. Don’t let money stand in the way of attending this retreat, which could strengthen, or even save, your marriage.

Women’s Ministry

The women are in the early stages a new book study, offered during the day, on Tuesdays from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m.

We are learning from the book of Ruth as we read and discuss the book, “The Girl’s Still Got It” by Liz Curtis Hicks. Women throughout the community are invited to join the NLBC women in our book studies.

 A young lady in our church has volunteered to provide childcare in the church nursery during the morning study. If you wish to join the study, the book is available at Mardel’s in Denton.

The “Secret Sister” group will hold their “reveal” for the past year on Sunday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the church. Refreshments will be provided. All ladies of the church and community are invited to attend.

Anyone wanting to participate in this program this coming year is invited to speak to Carol Grant about it.

The program is designed so that each lady will know they have someone praying for them through the year, providing encouraging cards and notes, and trinkets as they can.

Valentines Banquet

The annual church Valentine’s banquet will be held this year on February 16. The church has renamed the banquet in a tongue-in-cheek manner, calling it the “Un-Valentines banquet”, because it is not just for couples. Singles are invited as well. There is an exciting change of venue this year – details will follow. Please see Amy Dulock if you are interested in attending.

Weekly Men’s Devotion

The men of NLBC meet every Saturday from 7-8 a.m. at the church for coffee, fellowship, and a time of study and prayer. Please come, and feel free to bring a friend to this important fellowship. Gainesville Title Company and Robert Gleaton play host to a weekly men’s study and prayer time every Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. Men from several churches gather for this midweek gathering.

Weeknight Home Studies

Brent and Cyndy Banks are leading a study in their home each Wednesday night. They are currently studying about the Holy Spirit. All adults are encouraged to join them from 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. Please call or email the church for the Banks’ address.

Tim and Tammy Chancellor host a study every other Friday night in their home as well. Families are welcome. Please speak to them for more information.

Adult Bible Fellowship

Geoff Haberman is leading a Sunday morning bible study each Sunday at 9:30 in room 204. This is an interactive bible study which helps all those attending to increase their understanding of God’s Word. The class is currently studying the book of Judges.

AWANA

Get ready for the “Great Shake-Up” on January 30. Start inviting your friends’ and neighbors’ children to visit the AWANA club.

NLBC believes in preparing the young people for battle as they go out into the world. AWANA encourages children and youth to learn God’s word through memorization, reinforcing lessons, and fun games and activities.

The AWANA program is on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and includes children who turned three by September 1st, as well as Junior High students.

Youth

Youth leaders James and Alison Lewis meet with the high school youth in the outer building every Sunday morning at 9:30, for an invigorating study of the Gospels. The high school also meets on Wednesday evenings at the church, learning how to study their bibles.

This is very important to everyone to learn, so they can build a foundation of knowledge about the Lord and their faith, growing their relationship with the Lord.

The junior high youth meet on Sunday morning as well, and are currently learning the foundational principles of the Old Testament, relating that knowledge with the New Testament, and growing their relationship with the Lord.

New Life Family Prayer

Each Sunday morning those wishing to join in corporate prayer are invited to come together in one of the front hall Sunday school rooms from 9 to 9:30.

This is an opportunity to lift our church and our leadership up in prayer, as well as others who come to mind.

Sunday school for all ages, toddlers through adults, begins immediately after the prayer time. A nursery is offered throughout Sunday morning, and during the church service. Children’s Church is also offered for the children toddler-aged through pre-school.

Praise and Worship

Steven Dulock and the praise team use their God-given talent to lead the congregation in contemporary praise and worship every Sunday morning before the church receives the Word of God. Everyone is invited to experience this time of praise, lifting your voice to our Creator.

State School Ministry

Every 4th Sunday of the month members of New Life Bible meet after church to minister to the young men at the Gainesville State School. If you feel called to participate in this ministry, please see Robert or Susan Gleaton at the church.

The Blessed Sacrament first Wednesday of each month from 6:30 p.m.to 9 p.m. and First Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Adoration is a beautiful, quiet time to spend with Jesus in prayer or meditation.

The Altar Society is a ministry of women of the parish, who pray for each other and all of the parish family, maintain the Altar linens, candles, flowers and decorations used for the praise and glory of God our Father at the celebration of the Mass.

Members of the Altar Society pray the rosary each Saturday before the 4 p.m. Mass, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The mission of the Knights of Columbus, council 1167 is to help Catholic men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual encouragement, to promote closer ties of fraternity among them, and to set up an elementary system of insurance so that the widows and children of members in the group who might die would not find themselves in dire financial straits.

St. Mary's Catholic School news: Basketball is in full swing at St. Mary's!  The teams are playing well and with the hearts of champions.

Weekly Schedule

Sunday morning starts with a fellowship meal at 9:30 a.m.

There is no excuse not to do something to worship the Lord.  John 4:23 says, "The hour cometh and now is when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeketh such to worship Him."

Westminster Presbyterian Church

All visitors and residents of Gainesville are cordially invited to worship the Lord Jesus at Westminster Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) each Sunday and Wednesday. WPC is a Conservative Evangelical Protestant Reformed church.

Our worship service is very traditional using the ACTS form of worship: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. Dress is always casual.

Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m. and our Worship Service is in the main sanctuary at 10:45 a.m. The Sunday Evening Worship is at 6 p.m. and Wednesday Bible Study is at 7 p.m. Both meet in the Fellowship Hall.  

Choir rehearsals are held Sundays at 4:30 p.m.  The next Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study will be Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 a.m. Priscilla Circle for women will meet Jan 12 at noon.  Both meet in Grace Fellowship Hall.

This Sunday, Pastor Darrell McIntyre’s sermon will be “Raised with Christ” based on Col. 3:1 – 4. The Choir will also will be take a brief break.

There will be a time of fellowship in Grace Hall before church.
