Faith Lutheran Church
Faith Lutheran Church invites everyone to attend worship service on Sunday morning. The blended worship service will begin at 10:15 a.m. The sermon will be based on the Gospel of John 6: 51-69. Sunday School for children and youth and Bible Study for the adults will begin at 9 a.m. The Adult Bible Class will be led by John Morris, who will continue a study of the life of David. For those who wish to arrive at 8:45 a.m., coffee and fellowship will be shared. A nursery will be provided.

Helping Hands of Faith
Helping Hands of Faith, a mission of Faith Lutheran Church, is located at 719 Smith St. in the old Frankie Schmitz Shoe Factory building. Run by volunteers, this thrift store uses its profits for donations to the church and community. Funds are donated to organizations such as Stanford House, ABBA Women’s Center, Cooke County Home Hospice, CASA, CPS, Camp Sweeney, VISTO, and several area Volunteer Fire Departments. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you have items to donate, bring them to the store on regular store days. If you have large items that need to be picked up, call 668-4393.

First United Methodist Church
First United Methodist Church welcomes you to worship with us Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. We are located at 214 S. Denton Street. Childcare is available for ages 5 and under.
Our 8:30 worship is a little more relaxed but always includes beautiful music. The 10:45 service is traditional and features hymns, organ, piano, and choir and also often includes music from our handbells, children’s and youth choirs. Children are welcome in worship and we include a Children’s Sermon at each service. We offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

Join us this Sunday, August 19, for worship at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Rev. Don Yeager’s sermon is titled “Living Bread,” based on John 6:51-58.
At the 10:45 a.m. service of worship this Sunday, children entering fourth grade will each receive a new Bible. Next Sunday, Aug. 26, the fourth grade students will spend the Sunday School hour learning to use their new Bibles before returning to their regular classroom.
Promotion Sunday will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26. During the Sunday School hour the children will receive their Promotion Certificates and move up to the next grade.
On Sunday, Sept. 9, we will be celebrating the 160th anniversary of our congregation, one of the oldest in Cooke County, and the 120th anniversary of our historic sanctuary. First United Methodist Church began in 1852 and has sought to serve God and our neighbors for the past 160 years. That day we will have Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and one service of worship at 10:45 a.m. Worship will be followed by a catered lunch at noon and an “Old Fashioned Social Hour” at 1:00 p.m. with games and activities for the children, a tour of the sanctuary and old-time hymn sing, and homemade ice cream. We invite the community to join is for our celebration.
‘Soles for Souls’ ministry
“Soles for Souls” is a mission effort of First UMC with a goal of providing children of Cooke County who qualify with a new pair of shoes to start off the school year. New shoes may be brought to the church for distribution to local schools and the Boys and Girls Club, and monetary donations made be made out to FUMC and designated to be used for the Soles for Souls program. Monetary contributions will be turned into gift cards and will be issued by VISTO. We will dedicate the shoes during worship on Aug. 19.
Fall curriculum
The New Fall Curriculum is available for the adult Sunday School classes to look at. The curriculum along with sign-up sheets for all activities, children and adults, are located in the Pecan St. Atrium. Contact Patsy Morris at the church office for more information about ordering materials.
Learning Tree
The Learning Tree Preschool has openings for both 3 and 4 year olds for the 2012-13 school term. Your child or grandchild must be 3 or 4 years of age by September 1, 2012 to be eligible to enroll in the program. Second Time Around
Come and visit Second Time Around for school clothing needs. Selections are available in several different sizes. Second Time Around is a re-sale ministry that carries a wide variety of gently used clothing, books, household items, and furniture and has been serving the community and those in need since the 1970’s. Eula West was responsible for starting what was a small mission service and it has grown to serve more than just Cooke County. Profit from Second Time Around sales is given to mission projects of the church which include global-wide missions. Many needy persons are also helped free of charge. The store is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Second Time Around is located at 105 S. Denton Street and welcomes donations and shoppers.
Youth schedule
On Sundays all youth meet for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. Youth hours for both Jr. and Sr. High during the month of July and some of August will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Any youth needing a ride please call the Church Office before noon on Wednesday. Grand Avenue Baptist Church
At Grand Avenue Baptist Church we believe God hears and answers prayer. We had special church wide prayer for two of our members who are having health problems. Each Sunday morning we start our worship service with prayer requests, even the unspoken ones.

Bro. Bill Black’s sermon was from Romans 3:9-20 and 23. Can God use ordinary people in his work? Look in the Bible. Abraham was a liar, Moses a murderer and David committed adultery. Yet God used them in a mighty way. God restores the broken and the brittle and supplies what is missing. There will be no perfection in this life. Paul was stoned, snake bitten and ship wrecked but he counted it as nothing compared to God’s grace. Be available when God calls you.
A call to prayer
ABBA is opening its doors to anyone or group who would like to pray for our country. The agency is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ABBA is at the intersection of Taylor and Broadway Streets.
At 7 p.m., Thursday, GABC will be open for all those who want to pray.
Observance of the Lord’s Supper

Youth Minister
Mt Pleasant Baptist is teeming with excitement as we are preparing for the person God is calling for youth pastor for our church. Sunday morning, potential Youth Pastor candidate, Rapha Bolet and his wife Jessica, were in our morning worship service and Wednesday night service. Rapha met with the youth, Sunday morning and then led the morning worship service in songs accompanied by his guitar and Lester Haynie on guitar. Thursday night Rapha and Jessica will hold a short church service and afterward a time of questions and answers from the members for them. The Bolets are from California and Jessica has her degree in Counseling and is looking for employment in this area.
Building Committee Meeting

The mission team is moving forward, gearing up for another trip later in the year. Four trailers will be loaded with a lot of furniture for this trip. The people on the reservation are in great need of simple furniture items such as beds, dressing tables, etc. Thanks to some great people and friends, these needs are being met. Server Appreciation Swim Party
St. Mary’s says “thanks!” This week we would like to recognize Gary and Kim Otto, the chair Couple of the Altar Servers. They are very faithful in scheduling all the children to serve at each Mass and work to train them. On July 8th, they arranged a Server Appreciation Swim Party at Leonard Park. Andrew Ploeger cooked all the burgers and hotdogs the kids and their families wanted. Thanks Jimmy Gossett who supplied homemade cookies for the group of 30. We are SO lucky to have such wonderful parishioners.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available at St. Mary’s. Each parishioner is invited to spend one hour of prayer before The Blessed Sacrament first Wednesday of each month from 6:30 p.m.to 9 p.m. and First Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Adoration is a beautiful, quiet time to spend with Jesus in prayer or meditation.
Altar Society
The Altar Society is a ministry of women of the parish, who pray for each other and all of the parish family, maintain the Altar linens, candles, flowers and decorations used for the praise and glory of God our Father at the celebration of the Mass. Members of the Altar Society pray the rosary each Saturday before the 4 p.m. Mass, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
KC Mission
The mission of the Knights of Columbus, council 1167 is to help Catholic men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual encouragement, to promote closer ties of fraternity among them, and to set up an elementary system of insurance so that the widows and children of members in the group who might die would not find themselves in dire financial straits. Membership is open to practicing Catholic men 18 and older. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month. Grand Knight is Danny Wolf. His number is 736-3137.

Registration for high school youth
Registration for High School Youth will begin on August 4th for the 2012-2013 school year. St. Mary’s Parish is asking all youth in grades 9th through 12th participate in this program. A registration fee of $35 dollars per family is required. Classes will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please pick up registration forms in the back of church or in the Pastoral Center. All forms and fees must be returned to the Pastoral Center by Aug. 27. Registration and Fees will only be accepted through the Pastoral Center. We can no longer register students during Wednesday night Youth Meetings. Young people who will be confirmed are required to have two consecutive years of religious formation prior to being confirmed.

Vilott Baptist Church
Can you believe that it’s time for school to start again? In some ways this summer has just flown by. But as the season begins to change, one thing always stays the same. We always need the guidance of our Heavenly Father and He is always available to us. At Vilott Baptist Church we come together to praise Him, study His Word, and fellowship in His family.

This Sunday Kaji Price, Minister to Youth, brings the Lord’s message straight from His Holy Word. We sing the old gospel songs and some new ones. We would love to have you come and join us. Sunday evening services are at 6 p.m.
There are several small groups that meet during the week for Bible studies and prayer. Wednesday evening we start with a fellowship meal at 6 p.m. and there is something for all ages. On Thursday mornings there is a small group meeting for fellowship and Bible studies at 10 a.m. followed with a meal.
There is no excuse not to come to church and bring your family sometime during the week. Get on the right path and lead your family by example by following God’s path.

Whaley United Methodist Church
Join us this Sunday for Celebration Worship as we explore “If We Walk Away from God, Where Would We Go?” In John 6 Jesus asks a poignant question of the disciples: Do you also wish to go away? Why do people leave the church? Why should we hang in there with the church even in the midst of problems? The service will also feature a Historical Moment, Kid Time, and excellent music. Whaley UMC Kids’ Day Out
The Whaley UMC Kids’ Day Out program begins its Fall Semester Aug. 21. KDO is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for children one year of age through pre-school. Registration forms are available in the church office. Vacancies are very limited and are filled on a first come/first served basis. For more information call Misty Post at (940) 284-4921.
125th Anniversary Celebration
Whaley UMC will celebrate 125 years of worship and service in our community on Aug. 25 and 26. All former Whaley members and friends are invited and encouraged to join us. A Reunion Choir of former choir members and directors will rehearse Saturday, Aug. 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. At 6 p.m. all will gather in Fellowship Hall for an indoor picnic and Old-fashioned Gospel Sing. Sunday, Aug. 26 we will all join in Celebration Worship led by Rev. Dr. Larry George, assistant to the bishop of the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and Rev. Dr. Marvin Guier, Northwest District Superintendent. The Reunion Choir will sing for the service. A meal will be served for all in attendance following the service.
