Callisbsurg United Methodist Church

The Callisburg United Methodist Church located at 123 Oscar Cole Street, Callisburg, Texas 76240 welcomes you to our Sunday morning services which begin at 9:45 a.m. for Sunday school and 11 a.m. for Church Services.  Come and worship the Lord with us each Sunday. Our Pastor is Kathy Brown.

Children’s Time was led by Kathy Day.  Mason Day and Paul Pollard were the ushers for the month of July.

The women of the church had a wonderful Baby Shower for Jami Hamilton on Saturday July 18th.

On Aug. 18 a shower will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall for Karly Holder.  The time of the shower is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Karly’s selections are from Target, Babies-R-Us and Wal-Mart.

On Sept. 15 the Church will have its annual Harvest Sale. A fish fry is planned.

On Sept. 8 the Community Club will have its annual Garage Sale.

Calvary Baptist Church

 Last Sunday morning CBC welcomed our new Interim Pastor, Dr. Robert Sutton and his wife Beckie. He has pastored churches for more than 36 years in several different states. Dr. Sutton has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Divinity. Beckie is a Special Education teacher in the metroplex.  Robert and Beckie are  residents of Frisco. They have four adult children.

In Memory of Bill Meek

Our hearts were saddened  by the death of Music Minister, Bill Meek. His death was certainly a shock to everyone who knew him. Bill had served at Calvary for more than three years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Shirley and their family.

Welcome

Visitors are always welcome at our church services and activities at 1503 W. California Street.

On Sunday, our Sacrament Meeting is from 10 to 11:10 a.m.

Sunday School is from 11:20 a.m. to noon.

Priesthood Meeting, Relief Society, Young Men and Young Women meet from 12:10 to 1 p.m.

The Primary services for children ages three to 12 are from 11:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children meet together to sing and hear talks from children and meet in age-group classes for a gospel lesson and activities.

Nursery is for children from 18 months to three years old.

Temple Baptisms

On Saturday, a session for unendowed adult temple baptisms will take place at the Dallas Temple at 7 p.m.

Empty Nesters

The next get-together for the Empty Nesters group is Monday night at 6 p.m. at Sister Janet Clinton's home. Bring a potluck dish.

Stake Youth Dance

The next Stake Youth Dance will be on Aug. 18, starting at 8:30 p.m. at the Stake Center.

Fireside

Mark your calendars to attend the “Why I Believe” Fireside on August 19 at 7 p.m. at the Stake Center.

Cub Scouts CAN

The Cub Scouts of Troop 670 are still collecting aluminum cans as a fund raising event. Please keep all of your aluminum cans and bring them to church on Sunday mornings or to the church on Wednesday evenings between 7 and 8 p.m. Receptacles will be available for depositing the cans. Work on Genealogy

The Family History Center is open for members and the public on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The center is at 1503 W. California Street and there is no charge to use the genealogy center.

Christian Science Society

On Sunday, June 24, the subject for our weekly lesson will be “Soul” which will include quotations from the Bible and correlative passages from “God the Preserver of Man” by Mary Baker Eddy, our founder, which explains the readings from the Bible from a spiritual perspective.

Our service is held at 115 E. Hird St., at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is cordially invited. Our reading room is always open to all before services.

First Baptist Church of Era

First Baptist Church of Era will host a day in the park from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday in the large pavilion at Leonard Park.

The guest speaker will be Corby LaCroix.

Guests can enjoy a free lunch and there will be bounce houses for the kids.

Children’s ministry

Our Children's Ministry is planning a Back to School Splash Bash on Wednesday, Aug. 15 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be water slides as well as swimming. For more information call Todd Stevens at 665-4347.

Second Annual "First Family" Picnic

Our second annual picnic is being planned for Aug. 26 — 5 to 8 p.m. at Leonard Park. This will be a great picnic complete with a men's cake baking contest, a women's crazy hat contest, food, bounce houses, fellowship and fun! Bring your lawn chairs and join in the fun! There will be something for everyone.

FBC Game Night

Our monthly game night will be Saturday, Aug. 11 in the Activities Building. Everyone is invited to come for games such as chicken foot, 42, card games, etc. Be sure and bring your favorite snack. The fun begins at 6:00 p.m. and will continue to 9 p.m. Just bring your favorite game and snack and come on!

Ladies ministry

Several opportunities are being offered through our Ladies Ministry. One special activity is a ladies mentoring ministry. If you are interested in mentoring or being mentored you will want to sign up by calling the church office at 665-4347. Look for more information to follow about this ministry.

Special upcoming youth event

A very special BACK2TRUTH YOUTH RALLY featuring several bands and artists will be happening here at the First Baptist Church Activities Building August 18 at  6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30. This is one event you won't want to miss!

J. Bailey, baritone sang “The Honors of Thy Name;” and the flower donation was by Charles Hart & Pam Hirschi in celebration of new beginnings & love.

Prayer Quilts

The Prayer Quilt Ministry gave quilts to Barbara Marshall and two other ladies for health problems.

Creative Arts

The Creative Arts Camp is on August 6-10 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday

The Worship & Music and the Stewardship committees meet at 6 p.m. Choir rehearsals are at 7 p.m.,

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church welcomes you to worship with us Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. We are located at 214 S. Denton St. Childcare is available for ages 5 and under.

Our 8:30 worship is a little more relaxed but always includes beautiful music.  The 10:45 service is traditional and features hymns, organ, piano, and choir and also often includes music from our handbells, children’s and youth choirs. Children are welcome in worship and we include a Children’s Sermon at each service.  We offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

Join us this Sunday, Aug 5, for worship at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. This Sunday, is Holy Communion Sunday with the rail offering going to support the Soles for Souls Mission Project (read below for detailed information). Rev. Don Yeager’s sermon is titled “Equipping the Saints,” based on Ephesians 4:7-16.

‘Soles for Souls’

“Soles for Souls” is a mission effort of First UMC with a goal of providing children of Cooke County who qualify with a new pair of shoes to start off the school year. New shoes may be brought to the church for distribution to local schools and the Boys and Girls Club, and monetary donations made be made out to FUMC and designated to be used for the Soles for Souls program. Monetary contributions will be turned into gift cards and will be issued by VISTO.  We will dedicate the shoes during worship on Aug. 19.

Chancel Choir

Our Chancel Choir has had a month of rest during July and will start rehearsals with a workshop this Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Center. The Heritage Ringers will resume rehearsals on Aug. 29. Our youth and children’s choirs will start up again in September dates and times TBA.

Youth group event

Our Youth group will have a special event On Saturday, Aug. 4. Wear your swimsuits because the Giant Water Slides are back along with a cook-out from 3 to 7 p.m. Youth are encouraged to invited a friend, bring a towel, T-shirt, and sunscreen, along with a positive attitude! On Sundays all youth meet for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. Youth hours for both Jr. and Sr. High during the month of July and some of August will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Grand Avenue Baptist Church

We had two more baptisms at Grand Ave., Hannah Green and Savannah McNeely.  Praise the Lord.  God in his wisdom made salvation simple enough for children to understand and yet deep enough to puzzle scholars. We will be praying for these new Christians.  We expect more baptisms next week.

Since this Sunday is the first Sunday in August, it will be Penny Sunday at Grand Ave.  Bring your change to put in the little red wagon as the children pull it around at offering time.

Choice and Bobbye Stephens will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on August 18. Details and invitation to follow.

“The Word” Youth go out to lunch the first Sunday of every month.  Join us for lunch.  Location is undecided and changing.

GABC is located in the 600 block of North Grand Ave.   Off-street paved parking and entrance doors are on the east side, on Clements  Street.

Our schedule

We start Sunday morning at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall with coffee and breakfast followed by Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 a.m. and the Morning Worship at 10:40.  Evening worship is at 6 p.m. in the little chapel.

Tuesday at 7 p.m. our Grief Support Group meets in Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday at 7 p.m.  Prayer Service  and the Youth Get-Together in the Fellowship Hall.

GABC is a praying church and a caring church.  You will find a warm welcome when you join us.



New Life Bible Church

Pot Luck

The first Sunday of the month always brings a potluck fellowship after church. Even if you couldn’t make food, please stay anyway. There will be plenty!

Women’s Ministry

 The women of New Life Bible are involved in a study on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. based on the book, “Made to Crave” by Lysa Terkeust, which helps teach how to turn your desires away from cravings and toward Christ. Women throughout the community are invited to join this study led by Kim Wilson.

Weekly Men’s Coffee

The men of NLBC meet every Saturday from 7 to 8 a.m. at the church for coffee, fellowship, and a time of study and prayer. Please come, and feel free to bring a friend to this important fellowship.

Wednesday Night Study

The Brent and Cyndi Banks are leading a study in their home each Wednesday night through the summer, based on the book “Radical.” All adults are encouraged to join them from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Please call or email the church for the Banks’ address.

Adult Bible Fellowship

Geoff Haberman is leading a Sunday morning bible study each Sunday at 9:30 in room 204. This is an interactive bible study which helps all those attending to increase their understanding of God’s Word. The fellowship is currently studying the book of Joshua.

High School Youth

Youth leaders James and Alison Lewis meet with the high school youth in the outer building every Sunday morning at 9:30.  The high school also meets on Wednesday evenings at the Lewis’ home, learning how to study their bibles.

Junior High Youth

The junior high youth meet on Sunday morning as well, and are currently learning the foundational principles of the Old Testament, relating that knowledge with the New Testament, and growing their relationship with the Lord.

New Life Family Prayer

Each Sunday morning those wishing to join in corporate prayer are invited to come together in one of the front hall Sunday school rooms from 9 to 9:30.

 This is an opportunity to lift our church and our leadership up in prayer, as well as others who come to mind. Sunday school for all ages, toddlers through adults, begins immediately after the prayer time.

A nursery is offered throughout Sunday morning, and during the church service. Children’s Church is also offered for the children toddler-aged through pre-school.

Praise and Worship

Steven Dulock and the praise team use their God-given talent to lead the congregation in contemporary praise and worship every Sunday morning before the church receives the Word of God. Everyone is invited to experience this time of praise, lifting your voice to our Creator.

Nursing Home Ministry

New Life Bible is involved in a ministry to the people of one of the local nursing homes. The young people have “adopted” three of the residents who might not have friends or family to check in on them, and will be visiting them frequently. Please see the youth department director, Kimberly Wilson, for details on helping with this ministry.

State School Ministry

Every 4th Sunday of the month members of New Life Bible meet after church to minister to the young men at the GainesvilleStateSchool.

AWANA

NLBC believes in preparing the young people for battle as they go out into the world. AWANA encourages children and youth to learn God’s word through memorization, reinforcing lessons, and fun games and activities. The AWANA program is on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and includes children who turned three by Sept. 1, as well as Junior High students. AWANA is on hiatus for the summer, but will return when the school year resumes.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Vilott Baptist Church News

In some ways this summer has just flown by. But as the season begins to change, one thing always stays the same. We always need the guidance of our Heavenly Father and He is always available to us. At Vilott Baptist Church we come together to praise Him, study His Word, and fellowship in His family.

Vilott Baptist Church is located on FM 678 just outside of Callisburg. We have something for everyone. Sunday mornings start with a fellowship breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday school at 10 Sunday morning worship begins at 11 a.m. Our Pastor Rick Isham brings the Lord's message straight from His Holy Word.

We sing the old gospel songs and some new ones.  Sunday evening services are at 6 p.m.

There are several small groups that meet during the week for Bible studies and prayer. Wednesday, August 15, we start with a fellowship meal at 6 p.m. and then we are having Family Fun Night.

Whaley United Methodist Church

 Join us for "Full, but not Satisfied," from John 6:24-35.  We will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion.  The service is filled with excellent music and we have a special time for kids.

Whaley UMC Kids' Day Out

Kids' Day Out is now registering for the Fall session.  KDO is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for children one year of age through preschool.  Vacancies are very limited and are filled on a first come/first served basis.  For more information call Misty Post at (940) 284-4921.

Ladies' Night Out

The women of Whaley UMC will enjoy their annual Ladies' Night Out Tuesday evening, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  A light supper will be served followed by musical entertainment.  

125th Anniversary Celebration

Former Whaley pastor Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby will return to fill the Whaley pulpit Sunday, Aug. 12 as part of our anniversary celebration.  All former Whaley members and friends are invited to join us Aug. 25 and 26 to celebrate 125 years of worship and ministry in our community.  

A Reunion Choir of former choir members and directors will rehearse Saturday Aug. 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  

At 6 p.m. all will gather in Fellowship Hall for an indoor picnic and old-fashioned Gospel Sing.  Sunday, Aug. 26 we will all join in Celebration Worship led by Rev. Dr. Larry George, assistant to the bishop of the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and Rev. Dr. Marvin Guier, Northwest District Superintendent.  The Reunion Choir will sing for the service.  A meal will be served following the service.
