Gainesville Bible Church

Gainesville Bible Church. In biblical times, a person’s name indicated and pointed to their individual character. In keeping with that model, here at Gainesville Bible Church we hope our name communicates our character and our ministry.

Gainesville… we as a local body of believers recognize our calling to minister to the community of Gainesville, TX and the surrounding areas by proclaiming the Truth of God as revealed by His Word and striving together to live that Truth in our community at large.

Bible… We believe the 66 books of the Old and New Testament to be the complete inspired Words of God – that’s right – as though He spoke them out loud. The bible is the Creator’s communication to His creation.

Church… The Greek word for ‘church’ is ekklesia – which literally means “called out ones”. Our present home is within the world system – but our eternal home is far from the bleak confines of this planet. But while we remain, we understand our purpose is to be the hands and feet of our Savior Jesus Christ, continuing in the work He began: teaching, preaching, evangelizing, praying, worshipping and serving.

We would love to have you join us for worship, bible study and ministry.

Our meeting times are:

Sunday:

9:30a Sunday School

10:30 a.m. Worship Service

7 p.m. Bible Study

Sunday morning, Mt Pleasant Baptist Church rang out with Christmas carols. Emma Flessa and Jennifer Gilmer sang a beautiful duet of What Child Is This?

Pastor Charles Williams took his message from Luke 2:8-20, entitled Shepherds in the Dark. God could have announced the birth of His Son through Kings, or people of importance. Instead God revealed our Lord's birth through ordinary people like the Shepherds. He still reveals himself to ordinary people.

Sunday evening at 6:30 pm. Mt Pleasant Baptist had their Christmas party. After much good food, and fellowship everyone congregated to the auditorium for Christmas carols and sharing individual Christmas traditions in families.

Wednesday night Bible Study, a film was shown entitled “The Star of Bethlehem”, which was a scientific and biblical film about the Christmas Star that led the Wise-men to Christ.

Next Sunday morning the Adult Sunday School class will be watching a film entitled: Isaiah 9:10 Judgment.

The Church began a new Liturgical Year on the first Sunday of Advent (December 2nd).  Advent (meaning, "ad-venio in Latin or "to come to") is the season leading up to the celebration of Christmas. The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. Advent devotions remind us of the meaning of the season. Special Advent devotions include the lighting of the Advent wreath; the Advent calendar which helps remind us of the season with daily thoughts and activities; Advent prayers that prepare us spiritually for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available at St. Mary’s. Each parishioner is invited to spend one hour of prayer before The Blessed Sacrament first Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm-9pm and First Fridays from 9:30am-12:00pm. Adoration is a beautiful, quiet time to spend with Jesus in prayer or meditation.

The Altar Society is a ministry of women of the parish, who pray for each other and all of the parish family, maintain the Altar linens, candles, flowers and decorations used for the praise and glory of God our Father at the celebration of the Mass. Members of the Altar Society pray the rosary each Saturday before the 4 p.m. Mass, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The mission of the Knights of Columbus, council 1167 is to help Catholic men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual encouragement, to promote closer ties of fraternity among them, and to set up an elementary system of insurance so that the widows and children of members in the group who might die would not find themselves in dire financial straits. Whaley United Methodist Church

In Luke 1:39-55, we encounter what appears to be an everyday scene, two pregnant women who have come together to talk.  In this ordinary looking scene we read a poem that helps us see the many ways the birth of Jesus affects us.  The poem talks about our individual needs, political leadership, money and the role of the people of God.  Our theme for this week is "Comforting Joy."  Join us this Sunday, the last Sunday of Advent, for "Pregnant and Profound."  The choir will sing a much loved anthem Mary, Did you Know  featuring soloist Kevin Beall.  Kevin will also lead "Kid Time."  The service will also feature traditional Christmas hymns we all know and love.

Sunday will also include a Whaley tradition...Christmas Brunch.  All are invited to join us for favorite holiday pick up foods and fellowship at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.
