Gainesville — First Christian Church

First Christian Church is located at 401 N. Dixon in Gainesville. Sunday School for all ages starts at 9 a.m., with worship at 10 a.m., where we celebrate the Lord’s Supper with an open communion table each Sunday. Sunday’s message by Rev. Mark Loewen is titled, “Scandalous.” The Scripture reading is Mark 6:1-6.

The Bridge

The Bridge is a multi-denominational contemporary worship service. Our next service is Wednesday, July 11 at 7 p.m. in the CLC at First Christian Church. We invite you to come for the fellowship with believers from other churches and seekers who may not yet have a church to call home. The speaker will be Rev. Erin Taylor. We come together for live music, a message, and communion.

Movie Night

Friday, July 13 is Movie Night in the CLC at 7 p.m.  Admission is free, but we will be selling popcorn, sodas, and movie candy.  Proceeds will go to the clothes pantry for school children.

Church Camp

Our eighth graders will be at Eigthters Camp at Disciples Crossing next week.

Faith Lutheran Church

Faith Lutheran Church invites everyone to attend worship service on Sunday morning. The blended worship service will begin at 10:15 A.M. The sermon will be based on the Gospel of Mark 6: 1-13. Pastor Sundbye and the group of youth who traveled to Birmingham, Alabama on a mission trip will report on their mission activities while they were in Birmington. Sunday School for children and youth and Bible Study for the adults will begin at 9 a.m. The Adult Bible Class will be led by John Morris, who will continue a study of the life of David. For those who wish to arrive at 8:45 a.m., coffee and fellowship will be shared. A nursery will be provided.

Need a ride to church?

Would you or a family member like to attend church or Sunday School, but you don’t have transportation? Do you know someone who would like a ride to church? We can help. It’s simple; just call the church at 668-7147 or Mischa Brown at 641-1231 before noon on the day prior to the day the ride is needed. A carpool volunteer in your area will be contacted to make it happen. We are excited for you to attend our services at Faith! Please don’t let transportation difficulties keep you from joining us; we would love to have your company and fellowship.

Birthday and anniversary wishes

In Faith’s church family, Shay Howeth and Jerry Vernon will celebrate their birthdays this week. Jason and Alicia Rupert will celebrate their wedding anniversary. We ask special blessings on all of them.

Sally Haynie to host Bible study

On Monday, July 9, Sally Haynie will host a Ladies’ Bible Study at noon at her home, 1821 Arkansas St. The group is studying “A Study to Discover Your Own Gifts of the Spirit, Fruit of the Spirit, and Natural Talents” and how to use them. On Monday evening at 5:30 p.m., Vacation Bible School will begin in the Fellowship Hall. VBS will last through Friday, July 13. For further information, call the church at 668.7147. We would love to see your children here to enjoy snacks, games, crafts, and sharing stories about Jesus and his love.

Men’s Club

On Tuesday, July 10, the Faith Men’s Club will meet at 6 p.m.

Ladies Bible Study

On Wednesday, July 11, the Ladies Bible Study group will meet at 9:30 a.m. to continue their study of Romans.

Helping Hands of Faith

Helping Hands of Faith, a mission of Faith Lutheran Church, is located at 719 Smith St. in the old Frankie Schmitz Shoe Factory building. Run by volunteers, this thrift store uses its profits for donations to the church and community. Funds are donated to organizations such as Stanford House, ABBA Women’s Center, Cooke County Home Hospice, CASA, CPS, Camp Sweeney, VISTO, and several area Volunteer Fire Departments. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you have items to donate, bring them to the store on regular store days. If you have large items that need to be picked up, call 668-4393.

  • Men's group Church to start new ministry

    Gainesville Westminster Presbyterian Church, deeply entrenched  as part of the  community since 1946, is stepping out in faith by reaching out through a new ministry beginning Jan. 27 entitled “Men’s Accountability Network” (MAN). The ministry is designed to provide encouragement and support to men who aspire to build stronger relationships with God and family.
