CHURCH NEWS 7-6

(Continued)

Gainesville — First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church welcomes you to worship with us Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. We are located at 214 S. Denton Street. Childcare is available for ages 5 and under.

Our 8:30 worship is a little more relaxed but always includes beautiful music.  The 10:45 service is traditional and features hymns, organ, piano, and choir and also often includes music from our handbells, children’s and youth choirs. Children are welcome in worship and we include a Children’s Sermon at each service.  We offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

During the month of July we are inviting everyone to come to church dressed comfortably for the warmer temperatures.

Welcoming our guest pastor

Join us this Sunday, July 8, for worship at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. This Sunday, guest preacher, Rev. John Thornburg, will lead us in worship as Pastor Don and Suzanne enjoy vacation time. Rev. Thornburg’s sermon is titled “A Sermon in Song,” based on Mark 6:1-13. He served as a pastor for 22 years and a song leader for the North Texas Annual Conference for 10 years. He now serves in an itinerant ministry, of song leading and worship consultation, called “A Ministry of Congregational Singing.” He will give a special lecture during the Sunday School hour about congregational singing and world song in the Fellowship Center.

Children’s music camp

Children’s Music Camp, “Spend Awhile on the Nile,” starts Monday, July 9-13. Registered participants are ages 8-12 years of age. All participants will meet Monday –Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the performance held at 6:30 p.m. on June 13th in the Fellowship Center.

The Learning Tree Preschool

The Learning Tree Preschool has openings for both three- and four- year olds for the 2012-13 school term. Your child or grandchild must be three or 4 years of age by September 1, 2012 to be eligible to enroll in the program. Second Time Around

Second Time Around is a re-sale ministry that carries a wide variety of gently used clothing, books, household items, and furniture and has been serving the community and those in need since the 1970’s. Eula West was responsible for starting what was a small mission service and it has grown to serve more than just Cooke County. Profit from Second Time Around sales is given to mission projects of the church which include global-wide missions. Many needy persons are also helped free of charge.  The store is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Second Time Around is located at 105 S. Denton Street and welcomes donations and shoppers.

Youth schedule

On Sundays all youth meet for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. Youth hours for both Jr. and Sr. High during the month of July and some of August will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Any youth needing a ride please call the Church Office before noon on Wednesday.
