Church news 7-20

Gainesville Daily Register

Callisburg Church of Christ

The last month has been a busy one at the Callisburg Church of Christ!  Our Vacation Bible School in June was a great success and we want to thank everyone who pitched in and helped out with the program, then we had a large group go spend an evening at the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Texas Rangers, we had a great fellowship luncheon the end of June and this week had a movie and pizza night with the youth group!   We’ll be having another fellowship meal on July 29 following morning services and are scheduling a movie night for the younger kids of the congregation as well.  We have also been busy collecting fans for the needy to help out over the summer, and food for VISTO.

While we have a lot of activities going on our primary purpose at the Callisburg Church of Christ is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and worship God. We would love to have you come and join us! Sunday mornings sermon is entitled “Whose House Are You Building?”  Please consider coming out and joining us. We have Sunday School for all ages beginning at 9:30 a.m. Worship service beginning at 10:30 a.m. and again at 6 p.m.  Come visit us soon, we promise you a warm welcome from a loving group.

Callisburg United Methodist Church

Again, you are invited to attend the Callisburg United Methodist Church located at 123 Oscar Cole St. in Callisburg.  Our Sunday school classes for all ages begin at 9:45 a.m. and church services begin at 11 a.m.

There is a correction for past issues of this newsletter.  Our Pastor, Kathy Brown, is not from Sadler as previously stated.  She is from Whitesboro, and was the Children’s Director at the church there.   When Pastor Gowling could not be at the Sadler services, Pastor Kathy Brown spoke in his place.

This Sunday, July 15, Polly Williams had the children’s time.  The Scripture reading this Sunday was from the Old Testament: II Samuel 6:1-15 and the New Testament: Luke 11:8-11.

The title of Pastor Brown’s sermon was “Practicing the Presence of God” and challenged the congregation to practice the presence of God.

Grand Avenue Baptist Church

We have a family having financial problems due to medical costs.  We will be taking up a love offering Sunday to help them.

We rejoice because we will be baptizing two new Christians, a brother and sister, this Sunday.

ABBA is opening their doors to anyone who would like to pray for our nation, to stop abortion, to take us back to our Christian values.  Their times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  ABBA is located at the intersection of Broadway and Taylor Streets.

Sunday review

Bobbye Stephens opened the Morning Worship with prayer.  Betty Rhoades played the piano for us and she played “All That Thrills My Soul” as the offering was taken.

Several members of the Stephens family have birthdays this month so we wished them a happy birthday.

We welcomed our music director Benny Strong back from a vacation in Florida.

Bro. Bill Black’s sermon

Bro. Bill Black’s sermon was from 2 Peter 1:16-21.  We are called to  witness what we know as a fact.  We do not follow clever fables.  Here Peter reminds his readers that he was present on the mount and heard God’s voice saying “This is my Son whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”  We would all do well to pay attention to God’s word.  No prophecy came from the will of men.

William Baldwin gave the benediction.

Our location

Grand Ave. Baptist Church is conveniently located in the 600 block of North Grand Avenue.  We have off-street paved parking and entrance doors on the east side, on Clements Street.

 Our schedule

We begin Sunday morning  at 9 a.m. with coffee and breakfast in the Fellowship Hall followed by Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 a.m. and the Morning Worship at 10:40 a.m.   Evening Worship is at 6 p.m. in the little Chapel.

Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. our Grief Support Group meets in the Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday evening prayer meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and also our Youth Get-together.

Our church office is open from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays.  Call 665 2951 for prayer requests or more information.

GABC is a praying and a caring church.  You will find a warm welcome there.

Prairie Grove Church

On Sunday, Bro. John Woffard brought the message from Luke 15.  Bro. John will be preaching now, and he is really working hard to build the church. He and his family are a great blessing to our congregation.

The ladies of the church went to the home of one of the members who was not able to attend Sunday School and had a special prayer time and visit with her during the Sunday School hour.

Reach out and help those who need our love. The visitation program has been a great time for those who have been involved.

The church is moving on full force. What an exciting day to see the pews filling up. We now have a web site, www.prairie-grove-baptist-church.org. We invite you to go to our site to see all we have to offer.

Fifth Sunday Singing will be held on Sunday morning, July 29, and a lunch will follow the morning service.

The mission team is gearing up for another trip to the Navajo Reservation.  Furniture and household items are coming in, and the team is sorting, boxing and getting all ready for the trailers. This past week two of the friends we have made from the reservation have called us, so we know that we are touching and changing not only their lives, these contacts are also changing our lives. When God is in a work, it moves forward.  We as a mission team do not know what God has in mind for us or our church, but our trust is in Him, our Savior.  We watch and wait to see what God will do next. All we need to do is BELIEVE and God provides. Matthew 21:22.
