Era ISD Board Briefs

Era — Listed below is an unofficial report of the actions taken by the Era ISD Board of Trustees at a posted regular monthly meeting held on June 21 at 7 p.m. in the Era school library:

1) To begin the meeting, elementary principal Autry Hardy introduced new teacher, Casey Mason, to the Board and Superintendent.

2) In the consent agenda, the board approved minutes of the previous meetings and reviewed financial statements and the bill register, approved 38 student transfer applications for 2010-11, and approved the renewal for the Study Island program for 2010-11.

3) Campus principals, Jereme Dietz and Autry Hardy, reported on final 09-10 enrollment and upcoming school events.

4) Jerry and Will Vaughn of New Energy Wind & Solar gave a follow-up presentation to the board regarding possible installation of alternative energy generation sources on the school campus. No action was taken.

5) The Board approved school breakfast and lunch prices for 2010-11 (no changes from 09-10).

6) The Board approved the proposal from Blue Bell for ice cream and frozen snacks, the proposal from Enderby Fuels for propane, and the proposal from Douglass Distributing for fuel and oil products, for the 2010-11 school year. The Board also approved a proposal from Claims Administrative Services (CAS) for a Worker’s Compensation Plan for 2010-11.

7) The Board approved a revised contract with Patterson Professional Services for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation services for 2010-11.

8) The Board approved the 2010-11 District Teacher Salary Schedule and Stipend Schedule (no changes from 09-10). The Board also approved the 2010-11 Support Staff Salary Schedules.

9) The Board reviewed and discussed TASB Policy EIF(LOCAL) related to changes in district graduation requirements. No action was taken, but formal action will be taken to revise this policy at a later meeting.

10) The Board authorized the Superintendent to offer Probationary contracts to fill remaining professional openings in the District for the 2010-11 school year.

11) Superintendent Jeremy Thompson reported on the following items:

a. Discussed ongoing construction and maintenance issues in the district. The carpet was recently replaced in all district classrooms. Discussed information related to a possible lighting retrofit in both gymnasiums.

b. The Board moved the regular July board meeting date to Thursday, July 29th, and set a date for a special board meeting in August on Tuesday, Aug. 31. The regular August board meeting will be held on Monday the 16th.

c. Discussed the 2009-10 Comprehensive Needs Assessment report for the district, as well as the Class of 2010 Senior Exit Survey data prepared by LifeTrack.

d. Discussed the 2010 preliminary CCAD and DCAD budgets, and electric transmission lines proposed by Oncor Electric.

e. Discussed the preliminary 2010 School FIRST rating for Era ISD, projected to be a rating of “Superior.” (80 points out of a possible 80)

f. Discussed preliminary data for 2010-11 finance and budget projections, as well as current status of 09-10 budgeted revenues and expenditures.

g. Discussed upcoming board training opportunities, and recent professional development attended by the Superintendent.

12) The Board hired Tawnia King as a high school math teacher and JH girls’ coach for 2010-11, hired Kristen Roller as a kindergarten teacher for 2010-11, and hired Melitta Taylor as a JH English/Reading teacher for 2010-11.

    The Gainesville Independent School District will bring together the top three spelling bee winners from W.E. Chalmers Elementary, Robert E. Lee Intermediate, and Gainesville Middle schools by hosting a district spelling bee at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Gainesville Administration Building.

    Era and Valley View independent school districts recently joined the 150 other school districts in the Austin-based Equity Center that have filed a lawsuit against the State of Texas for financial reasons, and at least two other school district boards in Cooke County plan to discuss this matter during their November board meetings.
