Muenster ISD eighth grade Skills for Living students finished the school year by practicing some of the knowledge acquired in class outside of the classroom.
Entrepreneurial skills were practiced when students developed and managed their own business, the Flavorful Fourteen Snack Shack. Students planned, shopped and prepared for cookie baking labs. The students utilized time and money management skills, advertising techniques, as well as successfully preparing treats for bake sales in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Leadership and teamwork was the main focus of the project. The students’ profit enabled them to share some of their baked goods with the residents of St. Richard’s Villa.
The students then traveled to the Rainforest Café to spend the remaining earnings for a lunch at Grapevine Mills Mall. They were accompanied by their teacher, Joni Sturm. This activity resulted in the students putting into practice tipping calculations as well as table manners and etiquette.
The successful end to their business resulted in many valuable life skills earned.

Spelling bee winners move on to district elimination round
The Gainesville Independent School District will bring together the top three spelling bee winners from W.E. Chalmers Elementary, Robert E. Lee Intermediate, and Gainesville Middle schools by hosting a district spelling bee at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Gainesville Administration Building.

There are a variety of new clubs and organizations at Gainesville Middle School to expand the minds of these young students and the GMS Chess Club is doing just that.

Local schools challenge state finance system
Era and Valley View independent school districts recently joined the 150 other school districts in the Austin-based Equity Center that have filed a lawsuit against the State of Texas for financial reasons, and at least two other school district boards in Cooke County plan to discuss this matter during their November board meetings.

Lee students learn at Leeper Lake
The Gainesville Independent School District Foundation funded an opportunity for 225 fifth-grade students at Robert E. Lee Intermediate School to spend one day at Leeper Lake, which provided each student with an outdoor learning environment to enhance the information taught in the classroom.
