Gainesville — Two Edison Elementary students took home new bikes, helmets and water bottles thanks to their perfect attendance during the first six weeks of school.

Bike winners included Brenda Landeros and Kris Lane.

Horace Mann agents Kevin and Susan Beall donated the prizes as a way to help the school’s teachers encourage perfect attendance.

“Attendance is key to learning, and I’m just happy to help the educators at Edison emphasize the importance of getting up each morning and getting to school on time,” Kevin Beall said. “My hope is that by providing the incentive to the students, teachers didn’t have to focus as much of their time on helping children who had missed lessons because they didn’t make it to school.”

The perfect attendance program works like this:

At the end of the six weeks, every student who has had perfect attendance for that six weeks will earn a chance to win one of two bikes given out at the school. One boy and one girl will win a bike through a drawing held at the end of each six weeks.
