Era ISD board briefs

Era —

Listed below is an unofficial report of the actions taken by the Era ISD Board of Trustees at a posted special monthly meeting held on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Era school library:

1) The meeting began with a public hearing to present the proposed 2010-11 Era ISD Budget and proposed M&O and I&S tax rates.

2) In the consent agenda, the board approved minutes of the previous meetings and reviewed the final financial statements and reviewed the bill register, and approved seven student transfer applications for 2010-11.

3) The Board adopted the 2010-11 Era ISD Budget as presented. (The budget summary is available online for viewing at www.eraisd.net.)

4) The Board adopted ordinances to set the 2010-11 Maintenance & Operations tax rate at $1.04 (per $100 valuation) and the Interest & Sinking tax rate at $0.14 (per $100). Neither is an increase in the rate from the previous year.

5) The Board approved three amendments to the 2009-10 budget, and approved the designation of $500,000 of Unreserved, Undesignated Fund Balance ($250,000 designated for Capital Expenditures, and $250,000 for Construction).

6) The Board approved the 2010-11 School Bus Routes for Era ISD.

7) The Board approved engagement letter from Schalk & Smith, PC, for Independent Financial Auditor Services for 2009-10.

8) The Board appointed Paula Lewis as Presiding Election Judge for the Nov. 2, 2010, Trustee Election. The District will have one contested race in Place 6, where Michael Brown has filed to run against incumbent, Joe Yarbrough. In Place 3, Wayne Twiner will run unopposed for the seat currently held by Karl Metzler, and in Place 7, Clint Brown will run unopposed in the seat currently held by Jared Groce.

9) Superintendent Jeremy Thompson reported on the following items:

a. Discussed ongoing construction and maintenance issues in the district.

b. Discussed upcoming board training opportunities.
