The Leopard girls tennis team won the team championship on Tuesday at the Sanger Indian Invitational.
The Lady Leopards dominated the girls draws winning both girls doubles draws, third in A girls singles, A girls Consolation champion, and second in B girls singles.
All these wins added up to 12 points and a first place team trophy. The girls beat out Bridgeport who finished second with 9 points. The Leopard boys team finished third in the tournament with Whitesboro taking home the trophy.
The boys team won the B boys singles draw, took third in the A boys singles draw, won the consolation champion in B Boys doubles and A mixed doubles.
“We really needed this,” said Coach Jeff Gerken. “The last two tournaments we’ve played we just didn’t have the results we were hoping to get.
“ Well this time the kids hard work achieved everything we could have hoped for and more. I was really proud of their efforts.”
“This was Senior Captain Deven Garrett’s first time to ever place in a tournament and for him to win first really made it special,” Gerken said. “After lots of years of coaching it’s still those moments that really make it fun. Deven is a great kid who has worked super hard. I’m not sure he has quit smiling yet”
Individual winners for the Leopards were: Caylie Ginther/Katie Plunk-first A Girls Doubles; Irenee Perez/Kaitlyn Holt first B Girls Doubles; Deven Garrett first B Boys singles; Jessica Marler second B Girls singles; Jenny Parsons third A Girls Singles; Tony Wiese third in A Boys singles; Melina Perez consolation first B Girls Singles; Michael Heremes/Caleb Stogner Consolation first B Boys Doubles and Mandy Rankin/Cody Blake consolation 1st A Mixed Doubles.
The Leopards next tournament will be the first ever Leopard Invitational which will be held at the last Friday and Saturday of March.
