Steve Bevers is one super fan. At least that is the opinion of the Callisburg Athletic Booster Club members.
The club gave Bevers its first "super fan" award at the beginning of the Callisburg Spring Sports Banquet Wednesday at the Gainesville Civic Center.
"Let me tell you," Booster Club President Dee Dorman said, "that Steve is a great, great fan. He goes to all the sports activities and really supports our athletes."
After accepting a gift from the booster club, Bevers said he was not surprised with the award. "I kind of thought they were going to give me something, even before the banquet started," he said.
After the presentation, Callisburg Athletic Director Jerry Bomar told the crowd of more than 300 that he has never worked with a better staff.
"I have been in this business for 30 years," Bomar said. "I have never worked with a staff that pulled together more than this one."
"You have heard coaches say that I have never refused a request to have an athlete compete in a particular sport. In a small school you have to do that, you have to share athletes. The reason I always say yes is because these coaches make it easy. They pull for each other and work together."
After Bomar's talk, the coach of each spring sport honored their teams and handed out their awards.
After the banquet, Callisburg student Seth Wolfe said he really enjoyed the banquet and program. "The program was really good," he said, "and I really enjoyed the free food."
