SHERMAN — Callisburg athletic director and head football coach Jerry Bomar is reportedly among the candidates for the same position with Sherman High School, according to a report in Friday’s Herald-Democrat newspaper.
Bomar led the Wildcats to an 8-5 record in 2008 including two playoff wins, the first in school history.
Another of the candidates has local ties. Jeff Cleveland, who led El Paso Hanks to an 8-3 record in 2008, was the offensive coordinator at Gainesville High School under Mark Copeland in 2000.
According to Friday’s Herald-Democrat, other candidates include former Canton High School coach Gary Joe Kinne, Waco Midway offensive coordinator Lonnie Judd, former Justin Northwest head coach Leonard McAngus, Desoto head coach Dave Meadows, former East Central Oklahoma University coach Kurt Nichols, current Sherman defensive coordinator Jason Heath and current Sherman offensive coordinator Royce Slechta.
A new coach could be named Tuesday when the Sherman Independent School District has scheduled a school board meeting.
The school is looking for a new head coach after Drew Young retired on June 1 to accept the athletic director post at Durant, Okla.
