Wildcats rush past Rams 52-13

Staff report

SADLER — The Callisburg Wildcats wrapped up their first eight-win regular season in recent memory with a 52-13 victory over the S&S Consolidated Rams Friday in Sadler.

Callisburg (8-2 overall, 3-2 district) finished third in District 10-2A and will advance to the Class 2A Division II playoffs for the second consecutive year. The Wildcats will face Jacksboro Saturday at 7 p.m., at Birdville ISD stadium in North Richland Hills. Jacksboro (5-5) finished second in their district.

The Cats rushed for a whopping 455 yards against S&S and had three ballcarriers with at least 124 yards on the ground. Callisburg scored on each of their first eight possessions. Their defense was just as strong, not allowing the Rams to cross midfield in the first half.

Callisburg scored quickly as quarterback Bobby Dorman had a 62-yard TD run on the first offensive play of the game. Later in the first quarter, the Cats faced a third and 22, but Langston Jones took the ball around the left side, broke a couple of tackles and tightroped down the sideline for the score to make it 14-0.

The Cat defense then forced as turnover as linebacker Chase McCage broke through and hit S&S’s Chance Bratcher in the backfield, jarring the ball loose. Brandon LaRue recovered the fumble at the Ram 18.

After some negative yardage on offense, Dorman hit Seth Wolfe with a 32-yard touchdown on a screen pass. Wolfe drug the S&S safety the final 10 yards for the score.

Later in the first period, Jones scored on a 74-yard run that made it 28-0 with 25 seconds remaining.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats had a seven-play drive highlighted by a 55-yard run by Cory Harmon down to the 13-yard line. The drive stalled at the 10 and Dorman kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 31-0.

Late in the half, the Wildcats marched again thanks to runs of 18 and 20 yards by Clay McKenzie and a 12-yard pass to Wolfe. Dorman ran the final two yards for the score to push the lead to 38-0 at halftime.

Callisburg continued to roll in the third quarter. Dorman scored on a 40-yard scramble and McKenzie later added a 56-yard TD run to increase the lead to 52-0.

The Rams finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter against the Wildcat reserves. Blair Keeton scored on a 9-yard run on a reverse. Later, Billy Hewitt hauled in a 31-yard pass from Danny Franklin.

Jones finished with seven carries for 142 yards, McKenzie had 13 rushes for 132 yards, and Dorman carried the ball six times for 124 yards.
