Lindsay, Muenster girls qualify for state in cross country

The Lindsay Lady Knights are heading back to the Class A state cross country meet after winning the Region III championship Saturday in Humble.

The Lady Knights, the defending Class A state champion, finished first as a team with 37 points, while Muenster was second with 93 and Sulphur Springs North Hopkins was third with 107. All three teams will advance to state.

The Era Lady Hornets placed fourth with 119 points, narrowly missing a state berth. Saint Jo was 16th with 414 points.

Lindsay was led by Kelsey Hermes who placed second with a time of 12:00. Also for Lindsay, Megan Caillier was third (12:11), Rose Hermes was seventh (12:34), Jessica Block was 14th (13:03), Bethani Eberhart was 16th (13:13), Shirley Hess was 19th (13:14) and Jordan Fleitman was 21st (13:20).

“I am very proud of the way they ran this weekend,” Lindsay coach Robin Hess said. “They ran their best times this year.”

For Muenster, Emily Hellman led the way with a sixth place finish in a time of 12:30. Also for Muenster, Leaha Smith was 10th (12:46), Michelle Henscheid was 20th (13:19), Lana Heers was 30th (13:38), Kalyn Dangelmayr was 40th (13:54), Armita Mehdipor was 42nd (13:58) and Shaina Felderhoff was 50th (14:10).

For Era, Dana Schumacher was 13th (12:59), Julia Rust was 22nd (13:21), Carlee Black was 26th (13:32), Leah Doughty was 27th (13:34), Cheree Kiser was 44th (14:01), Sabrina Mask was 62nd (14:20) and Cortney Seay was 67th (14:39).

For Saint Jo, Kenzie Herr was 74th (14:51), Jessica Ramirez was 78th (14:55), Kate Wager was 88th (15:07), Maria Schoppa was 141st (17:06), Chelsea Giffin was 149th (17:43), Ashley Dennis was 155th (18:31) and Haley Hall was 157th (18:36).

In the boys division, the Era Hornets also narrowly missed out on a trip to State by finishing fourth with 113 points. North Hopkins won the meet with 42 points, while Sulphur Bluff was second with 84 and Avery was third with 92. Saint Jo was 15th with 358.

Era’s Zach Denison did qualify for State as an individual with a ninth place finish in a time of 17:41.

Also for Era, Ethan Stapleton was 20th (18:47), Hal Ray Spears was 27th (19:03), Nick Seay was 38th (19:23), Morgan Hunter was 43rd (19:30), Jody Adair was 58th (20:10) and Victor Rodriguez was 136th (23:07).

Muenster’s Tanner Silmon was 57th with a time of 20:10, and Lindsay’s Thomas Rohmer placed 68th with a time of 20:25.

For Saint Jo, Kyle Pearce was 70th (20:26), Nick Moran was 76th (20:36), Jake Ellingwood was 90th (21:06), Kenny Holmes was 103rd (21:38), William Phillips was 112th (21:58), Luis Solis was 139th (23:10) and Brady Chadick was 143rd (23:26).

In Class 2A, Callisburg junior Morgan Reed ran in the Region II girls race held at Vandergriff Park in Arlington. Reed placed 52nd out of 189 runners with a time of 13:42.

Brock won the girls team event, while Crawford was second and Pilot Point was third. For the boys, Ponder was first, Bruceville-Eddy was second and Redwater was third.

In Class 3A, Gainesville freshman Giovanni Carranza placed 49th with a time of 17:47 at the Region II meet in Arlington..

The Argyle boys finished first in the team standings, while Lucas Lovejoy was second and Sanger placed third. Argyle also took home the girls team championship, while Lucas Lovejoy was second and Sanger was third.

The State meet is scheduled for Saturday in Round Rock. The Class A girls race begins at 10 a.m., with the boys to follow.
