Area HS Girls Basketball Roundup from Friday/Saturday

SHERMAN — The Gainesville Lady Leopards went on the road Saturday and fell to the Sherman Lady Cats 59-35 in a non-district basketball contest.
Sherman raced out to a 27-10 lead after the first quarter and led by 21 at halftime.
Rachael Mack led Gainesville with 12 points, while Amy Franklin and Alexandra Cooney each added 8, Megan Gonzales had 4 and Jessica Moore scored 3.
Alicia Peterson scored 19 points for Sherman.
Gainesville is now 0-2 on the season and will travel to Fort Worth South Hills Tuesday.
Sacred Heart 76
FW Bethesda 27
MUENSTER — The Sacred Heart Tigerettes improved to 3-0 with an easy 76-27 win over Fort Worth Bethesda Saturday in Muenster.
Sacred Heart led 21-7 after the first quarter and had a 40-14 lead at halftime. The Tigerettes continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring Bethesda 36-13.
Rebecka Hesse led Sacred Heart with 19 points and 5 steals, while Taylor Reiter added 9 points and 12 rebounds, Kristin LeBrasseur scored 8, Samantha Wimmer had 7 points and 8 assists, Kalyssa Pollard and Karli Anderle each scored 7, Raynee Hogan had 6, Kelsey Reeves had 5, Lisa Miller scored 4 and Alyssa Moraguas and Sydney Hoedebeck both scored 2.
Sacred Heart will host Valley View Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Saint Jo 31
COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville Lady Pirates opened up the season Saturday with a 33-31 win over the Saint Jo Lady Panthers in Collinsville.
Collinsville (1-0) trailed 24-21 going into the fourth quarter, but outscored Saint Jo 12-7 in the final frame to take the win.
“We knew that we would struggle offensively,” Collinsville coach Marshall Wallace said. “I’m very proud of the girls for playing hard on defense and finding a way to win. We were down by five points late and they just refused to give up.”
For Collinsville, Samantha Blakeley led the way with 13 points, while Kaila Delka added 10, Taylor Daley scored 5, Brooke Swindle and Candace Marlin each added 2 and Amy Castillo added 1.
For Saint Jo, Harris and Ramirez both scored 13.
Lindsay 44
Celeste 29
LINDSAY — The Lindsay Lady Knights opened the 2008 basketball season with a 44-29 win over the Celeste Lady Devils Saturday in Lindsay.
“The girls did a great job for being early in the season and some of them only having two days of practice,” Lindsay coach Don Neu said.
Kristin Martin led the Lady Knights with 12 points, while Beverly Knabe added 10, Elizabeth Martin scored 7, Kaylee Murphree had 6, Katie Dieter had 5, Taylor Atkins added 3 and Katie Nortman scored 2.
The Lindsay junior varsity girls lost to Celeste 42-22 Saturday.
Lucinda Krahl had 10 points to pace Lindsay, while Mandy Hess had 4, Emily Conaway added 3, and Katie Arendt and Amelia Haverkamp each scored 2.
Lindsay will be back in action tonight at Ponder.
Valley View 39
Slidell 18
VALLEY VIEW — The Valley View Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 with a 39-18 win over the Slidell Lady Hounds Friday in Valley View.
The game was tied 6-6 after the first quarter, but the Lady Eagles outscored Slidell 11-2 in the second quarter and 22-10 after halftime.
Courtney Pierce led Valley View with 19 points, while Taylor Dowd added 10, Kinzee Pierce and Emily Duvall each scored 3, Ariel Hernandez and Shelbi Meyer both scored 2 and Jamie Rauschuber added 1.
“We are playing better and better, but offensively we are still struggling shooting the ball,” Valley View coach Jeff Percell said. “We are executing okay on offense and getting the shots we want, but we are not making enough of those shots. Still, we’re excited to start the year off with a couple of wins.”
Valley View will play at Sacred Heart tonight.
