Lady Lions rush to conference title

Never in 10 years would North Central Texas College’s Van Hedrick ever think he would win 400 softball games as the Lady Lions’ head coach. At least not after going 15-46 in the first year of the program, which started up 10 years ago.“Four hundred wins is just a number,” Hedrick said in an interview Tuesday afternoon. “But when you consider all the great players and assistant coaches I have had over the years, that is what makes it so special.”At this point Hedrick’s Lady Lions are 400-209 for the 10 years the program has been in place.

Call home too much for Coach Tallon

To be closer to home and to have a chance to really put his stamp on a football program were too much for Chillicote Coach Chad Tallon.it was a job that he couldn’t refuse.Tallon got to answer both calls as the Saint Jo school board chose him as the next Panthers’ head football coach.Tallon will be able to build a 6-man program from the ground up as the Panthers drop to the 6-man game, after a not history in 11-man football.“I’m from Terral (Okla.),” Tallon said in a telephone interview from Chillicote late last week. “That is about 30 miles from Saint Jo.
