Coaches announce all-district teams

Here is the District 14-2A boys All-District basketball team as voted on by the coaches:

MVP: Matthew Smith, Whitewright, JR.

Offensive Player of the Year: Blessing, Pottsboro, SR.

Defensive Player of the Year: Fred Bowen, Whitewright, SR.

First team All-District:

Michael Mariano, Howe, SR.; Alex Watson,Pottsboro, SR.; Brad Breedlove, Gunter, SR; Jeremy Ballard,Whitewright, SR.; Brad Hindman, Gunter,SR.; Willy Smith, Callisburg, SR.; Raymond Makuch, Pottsboro, SR..

New Comer of the Year: Bobby Dorman, Callisburg, SO.

Second Team All-District:

Sacred Heart

Sixteen Sacred Heart basketball made the 2008 All-District basketball team, as voted on by district coaches recently.

Making the first team in the girls division were MVP Samantha Wimmer, Kristin LeBrasseur (offensive player of the year), Lauren Creed and Kara Felderhoff.

Making honorable mention were Lisa Miller, Kalyssa Pollard, Raynee Hogan and Sydney Hoedebeck.

In the boys division, Kevin Kulle took the MVP award. Also making the first team were Patrick Mojica, Nick Popovich and John Krawietz.

Taking second team honors were Colt Spruill and Sam Sparkman.

Receiving honorable mention were Jordan Reeves and Kyle Knabe.

  • Lady Cats take home Lindsay Tourney title The Callisburg Lady Cats took home the Lindsay Tournament Championship Saturday night, and did so in extra innings, defeating Commerce 2-1.

  • Lady Leopards' win punches playoff ticket The Gainesville Lady Leopards scored a pair of goals in each half and cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Wichita Falls Hirschi Lady Huskies Friday, giving the soccer girls the distinction of being the first GHS sports team to qualify for the playoffs this year.
