MUENSTER — The Sacred Heart Tigers used a strong first quarter to outlast the Era Hornets 63-51 Tuesday in Muenster.
Sacred Heart (4-0) outscored the Hornets 21-6 in the first quarter and had a 36-19 lead at halftime. Era’s best quarter was the fourth when they scored 23 points.
For Sacred Heart, Kevin Kulle and Nick Popovich both had 15 points, Sam Sparkman added 13 points and 7 steals, John Krawietz had 10 points and 9 rebounds, Patrick Mojica had 6 points and 7 assists, and Ben Walterscheid and Kyle Knabe both added 2 points.
Era was led by R.J. Metzler who had 16 points. Nathan Metzler added 14 and Trey Dunn had 8.
Era won the junior varsity boys game 27-24. Mason Maldanado had 13 points for Era, while James Rust added 6, Zack Denison had 3, Codie Hope had 2 and Andrew Menge scored 1.
For the Tigers, Jae Im had 9, Garrett Berend scored 6, Ryan Felderhoff had 5, and Calvin Wimmer and Jordan Henscheid each had 2.

GUNTER — The Whitesboro Bearcats outscored the Gunter Tigers 18-8 in the first quarter and 17-5 in the third quarter en route to a 54-31 win Tuesday.
Kevin Sparkman scored 23 points to lead Whitesboro, while Jonathon Rodriguez added 8, Matt Miller scored 7, Travis Labhart and Cody Crews both had 5, and Derek Denton, Hayden Baillio and Zane Ferguson all scored 2.
