The Lindsay Lady Knights won their fourth championship in the 21-year history of the North Central Texas College Holiday Classic by defeating the Howe Lady Bulldogs 46-36 Wednesday night at Lions Fieldhouse on the NCTC campus.

Lindsay now has the most girls championship titles in the history of the tournament. Sacred Heart, Valley View and Gainesville all have three titles. Howe won the title in 2005.

Against Howe, the Lady Knights got 8 first-quarter points from post Beverly Knabe to jump out to a 16-9 lead at the end of the opening period.

The Lady Knights never allowed the Lady Bulldogs to get within striking distance. Lindsay led 28-21 at halftime and 40-31 at the end of the third quarter.

Knabe led Lindsay in scoring with 14 points, while Cammi Neu added 9, Kristin Martin had 8, Rose Hermes scored 7, Kaylee Murphree added 5 and Bethani Eberhart had 3.

Neu and Hermes were both named to the First State Bank All-Tournament team.

For Howe, Tournament MVP Jordan England led the way with 20 points, All-Tournament selection Meredith Thomas and Ashley Davis each added 6, and Katie Pelzel and Jessica Burchfield both scored 2.

Also named to the All-Tournament team were Callisburg’s Lauren Romines, Era’s Cheree Kiser, and Sacred Heart’s Samantha Wimmer.

Callisburg 27

The Lindsay Lady Knights knocked off the Callisburg Lady Cats 41-27 in the semifinals of the Holiday Classic Wednesday morning.

Lindsay led 20-13 at halftime, but put the game away in the third period when they held the Lady Cats to just two points.

Beverly Knabe led Lindsay with 12 points, Kristin Martin added 6, Bethani Eberhart and Cammi Neu each had 5, Rose Hermes and Elizabeth Martin both scored 4 and Katie Dieter added 2.

For Callisburg, Lauren Romines had 15 points, Emily Westbrook added 5, Britni Shaffer had 4 and Tara Wescoat added 3.

Sacred Heart 52

The Howe Lady Bulldogs used a 16-5 advantage in the second quarter to get past the Sacred Heart Tigerettes 63-52 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Holiday Classic.

The win moved Howe into the championship game where they faced Lindsay.

After trailing 19-14 at the end of the first period, the Lady Bulldogs came back to take a 30-24 lead at halftime. They put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigerettes 20-11 to take a 50-35 lead into the fourth.

“We got beat by a better basketball team today,” Sacred Heart coach Jon LeBrasseur said. “Howe found some of our weaknesses and they really worked us over in thos areas. We will use this as a teaching tool when we get back to the practice court.”

Meredith Thomas led Howe with 18 points, Jordan England added 11, Jessica Burchfield and Gretchen Debner both scored 10, Ashley Davis had 9 and Katie Pelzel added 5.

For Sacred Heart, Samantha Wimmer had 16 points, Raynee Hogan added 10, Sydney Hoedebeck scored 9, Kristin LeBrasseur and Karli Anderle each had 8 and Kalyssa Pollard added 1.
