VALLEY VIEW — The field for the athletic director/head football coaching position at Valley View has been narrowed from 161 applicants down to seven finalists.
Valley View Superintendent William Stokes said interviews with the fina seven will be held today in hopes of finding the perfect person to replace outgoing coach Terry Felderhoff, who bolted for the Gruver Independent School District.
“We’re wanting to look at the quality of the coaching experience they’ve had,” Stokes said in reference to an applicants qualifications. “They don’t have to necessarily have been a head coach. We want to look at the responsibility they’ve had. Also, we want to look at their certification area, which is important in a small school, and if they are stable, if they’ve been in just a few places. We hope to find somebody that will stick with us for awhile.”
Felderhoff went 7-13 in his two years with the Eagles, who drop down from 2A to 1A after this year’s University Interscholastic League realignment.
Stokes said finding Felderhoff’s replacement has been a fairly difficult process.
“It’s not easy,” he said. “We had a committee that worked on it and we narrowed it down to 15, and went through them all again (down) to the seven to interview.”
Once a person is chosen and that person accepts the offer, the selection will be presented to the VVISD school board for approval at a regular monthly meeting.
Stokes said he hopes that happens at the school district’s next board meeting on Tuesday, March 30.
“Provided that one of these guys is suitable (for the job) after the interviews and they said they’ll take it, then we’re probably looking at March 30, or possibly sooner,” Stokes added. “That’s our plan right now. We may interview these guys and decide none of them. But I don’t think that’s going to happen, I think out of the group we’ll be able to entice one of them to come.”
