LAST WEEK: Era defeated Bells 23-20; Sacred Heart lost to Collinsville 36-0.
ERA OUTLOOK - The Hornets scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and defeat the Bells Panthers last week. Era rushed for 215 yards which is right at their team average for the season (216 yards per game). Quarterback Trey Dunn is averaging 101 yards on the ground and has thrown six touchdown passes. Defensively, the Hornets are one of the area’s best at defending the pass, giving up only 44 yards a game. But they have allowed an average of 205 yards on the ground.
SACRED HEART OUTLOOK - The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season last week when they were shut out at Collinsville 36-0. Sacred Heart had trouble getting any sort of offense working. They had just 17 yards rushing and 51 passing. Quarterback Matt Hesse left the game in the second half with an injury and sophomore Bob Bartush stepped in and threw for 46 yards. Hesse had actually injured his hand midway through the first quarter, but kept playing. He should be able to play this week. Running back Greyson Evans injured a shoulder and is probable for this week. Defensively, Bartush had 11 tackles, while Hesse and Alex Turner each had 10.

COACHSPEAK - “I just told our kids that Collinsville is a very good football team, so give them all the credit. We are a very young football team. Callisburg at Nocona

RECORDS - Callisburg is 3-0 overall (0-0 district); Nocona is 2-1 overall, (0-0 district).
LAST WEEK: Callisburg defeated Whitewright 47-12; Nocona defeated S&S; 51-21
CALLISBURG OUTLOOK - The Wildcats did not allow Whitewright to gain a first down until late in the third quarter. Callisburg’s offense had 282 yards rushing and 91 passing in the 47-12 win over the Tigers. The Cats are averaging 219 yards rushing and 177 passing through three games. They have two of the top seven rushers in the area. Quarterback Bobby Dorman is averaging 116.3 yards per game and tailback Langston Jones is averaging 86.6. Dorman is second in the area in passing yards (165 per game), while receiver Kevin Bartley is fourth in receiving (66.3).
NOCONA OUTLOOK - The Indians outscored S&S; by 23 points in the second half to pull away for a 51-21 win over the Rams. Phillip Lott led Nocona with 233 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Trevor Fenoglio ran for another 122 yards and three touchdowns. The Indians had 421 yards rushing.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - Callisburg: QB Bobby Dorman (6-2, 180), LB Chase McCage (5-10, 200), WR Kevin Bartley (5-9, 160); Nocona: RB Phillip Lott (6-1, 215), QB Trevor Fenoglio (5-9, 165), LB Justin Kirkendall (5-10, 160).
COACHSPEAK - “After three weeks we need to improve in the secondary because we are very inexperienced there and we need to keep improving our passing game. Our extra point execution must get better. We have a great kicker in Bobby Dorman, but we must protect better and snap better. We still have a long way to go, because we have not played anyone that is a really good team other than All-Saints Episcopal.” -- Callisburg coach Jerry Bomar on improvements his team needs to make despite 3-0 record.
Lindsay at S&S; Consolidated

RECORDS - Lindsay is 2-1 overall (0-0 district); S&S; Consolidated is 1-2 overall (0-0 district).
LAST WEEK: Lindsay defeated Gainesville State School 49-0; S&S; Consolidated lost to Nocona 51-21.
LINDSAY OUTLOOK - The Knights scored on every offensive possession against the State School Tornadoes last week. It started on the first play from scrimmage as Dax Fleitman hit Ross Jones on a 50-yard touchdown pass. The Knights finished the game with 256 yards rushing and 66 passing. Their defense held the Tornadoes to just 26 total yards including minus-17 rushing. Mitch Dieter had a fumble recovery for Lindsay.
S&S; OUTLOOK - The Rams got as close as seven, but gave up 23 unanswered points in the second half to lose to Nocona 51-21. Michael Lee had 18 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown for S&S;, while quarterback Danny Franklin was 8 of 15 passing for 81 yards. Billie Hewitt caught three passes for 55 yards.

COACHSPEAK - “I was pleased with the offense and our execution. I really wasn’t pleased with our starting defense. We made a lot of alignment mistakes and we are still not swarming to the football like we need to. I do however think this will be a different team on the field this Friday. Petrolia at Muenster

RECORDS - Petrolia is 0-2 overall (0-0 district); Muenster is 2-1 overall (0-0 district).
LAST WEEK - Petrolia lost to Henrietta 49-22; Muenster lost to Millsap 22-12.
PETROLIA OUTLOOK - This will be the second time the Pirates have faced a team from Muenster this season. In the first week of the season, Petrolia lost to Sacred Heart 27-17. In that game, Pirate quarterback Mitchell Heaton was 12 of 38 passing for 162 yards. Bryce Tucker was the leading rusher with 61 yards on 11 carries.
MUENSTER OUTLOOK - The Hornets played in a downpour last week at Millsap and lost 22-12. Muenster was held to just 149 yards passing and 48 yards rushing in the less than ideal conditions. Receiver Jason Luke continued his outstanding season with 108 yards receiving on seven catches. Luke has over 100 yards receiving in all three Muenster games this year. He also had an 82-yard kick return. Quarterback Levi Trubenbach is the top passer in the area with an average of 192 yards per game. He has thrown for six touchdowns. Garrett Walterscheid had 10 tackles and Dalton Koelzer added eight in last week’s loss.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - Petrolia: QB Mitchell Heaton (6-1, 190), RB Carson Cray (6-3, 185), OL Marcus Garcia (5-10, 250); Muenster: QB Levi Trubenbach (6-2, 190), DE Corey Sicking (5-8, 190), WR Jason Luke (5-8, 130).
Ponder at Collinsville

RECORDS - Ponder is 2-1 overall (0-0 district); Collinsville is 1-2 overall (0-0 district).
LAST WEEK: Collinsville defeated Sacred Heart 36-0.
PONDER OUTLOOK - The Lions are in their first year playing a varsity schedule, although they are not playing in District 10-2A this year. Last year they played a subvarsity schedule only. They were the only JV team to beat Collinsville’s JV last year (35-26).
COLLINSVILLE OUTLOOK - The Pirates played their first home game of the season last week and entertained the home crowd with a 36-0 win over Sacred Heart. Collinsville used the big play to win. Jeff Polley had a 76-yard TD run and Chris Carney had touchdown runs of 68 and 61 yards. Carney finished the game with 145 yards rushing on 11 carries.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - Collinsville: OL Turner Coulson (5-10, 225), LB Scott Ragsdale (5-11, 180), LB Chase Medler (5-10, 170).

Valley View at Howe

RECORDS - Valley View is 2-1 overall (0-0 district); Howe is 1-1 overall (0-0 district).
LAST WEEK - Valley View defeated Alvord 41-20; Howe lost to Van Alstyne 35-6.
VALLEY VIEW OUTLOOK - The Eagles had 352 yards of total offense in their win over Alvord last week. Quarterback Scott Willis rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 168 yards and four more scores. A.J. Kassen had two touchdown receptions, while Casey Boaz and Cameron Vesperman each added one. The Eagle defense only allowed Alvord to complete two passes for 21 yards, but the Bulldogs did rush for 256 yards. Valley View may be struggling to find healthy bodies to put on the field Friday. Running back Dustin Tomlinson is still questionable with his knee injury, cornerback Sammy Ponce is still out with a concussion, and cornerback Dylan Pembroke is questionable. The Eagles are also battling several flu bugs going around.
HOWE OUTLOOK - The Bulldogs opened the year with a 27-9 win over Class A Blue Ridge, then lost last week to 3A Van Alstyne 35-6. Howe has gone 3-7 for three straight seasons. Melvin Rodriguez ran for 744 yards last season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - QB Scott Willis (5-11, 165), DE Josh Anding (6-5, 220), LB A.J. Kassen (6-1, 180); Howe: RB Melvin Rodriguez, RB Tyler Ross, OL Kenny Herbert.
COACHSPEAK - “Scott played well on both sides of the ball. He was pressed into service in the secondary due to injuries. He did a great job considering the lack of practice time he got during the week on defense. He did a great job running the offense and being a leader on the field for us. The real key to winning the game this week was our fourth quarter performance by our offensive line. We had 14 offensive plays in the fourth quarter and they were all run plays totaling 119 yards. Scott had 81 of those on option keepers and Dustyn Whetzel had the other 38 on zone runs into the heart of the defense.” -- Valley View coach Terry Felderhoff on the play of Scott Willis and his offense last week.
Bonham at Whitesboro

RECORDS - Bonham is 0-3 overall (0-0 district); Whitesboro is 1-2 overall (0-0 district).
LAST WEEK - Bonham lost to Clarksville 38-0; Whitesboro defeated Pottsboro 34-10.
BONHAM OUTLOOK - The Purple Warriors were shut out by Clarksville last week. Back in the first week of the season, Bonham lost to 2A Callisburg 41-12. In that game, Kyle Washington rushed for 91 yards and passed for 125 more.
WHITESBORO OUTLOOK - The Bearcats got their first win of the season when they won the “battle of the boros” 34-10 over Pottsboro. Whitesboro got in front early thanks to a 48-yard reverse pass from Zane Ferguson to Eric Perkins. Also in the first half, they had a Jerrid Caffey touchdown run and a Travis Weatherread field goal. In the second half, Caffey had an 81-yard TD run and Cameron Clark caught a 71- yard pass from Jordan Gill. The final score came on a 17-yard Caffey run.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - Bonham: QB Kyle Washington (6-1, 180), TE T.J. King (6-2, 250); Whitesboro: LB Ethan Shadden (6-2, 212), OL Jonathan Jones (5-11, 267), CB Cameron Clark (5-10, 153).

LAST WEEK - Saint Jo defeated Wichita Falls Notre Dame 69-0; Northside lost to Happy 36-14.
SAINT JO OUTLOOK - The Panthers again crushed an opponent when they beat Wichita Falls Notre Dame 69-0 in a game that was called at halftime due to the mercy rule. Brady Chadick is the second leading rusher in the area (119 yards per game). Joey Lindenborn leads the area in touchdowns scored with eight, while teammate Jake Ellingwood is second with seven. Saint Jo is averaging 64.3 points per game.
NORTHSIDE OUTLOOK - The Indians lost to No. 15 ranked Happy this past week. They were 8-3 last year and reached the bi-district round of the Six-Man Division I playoffs. Receiver Zack Agnew is a three-time All-State selection.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - Saint Jo: RB Jake Ellingwood (6-0, 180), DE Joey Lindenborn (5-9, 160), NG Richard James (5-10, 195); Northside: WR Zack Agnew, LB Kody Dickerson, QB Bobby Don Riggins.
COACHSPEAK - “Our players would love to play more minutes, but they also know the chances of playing a half are very real in Six Man. Over 50 percent of all Six Man games in the state end in the 45-point mercy rule each week. I think we as coaches would like more gametime opportunities for our kids, but on the flipside it reduces the risk of injuries in meaningless minutes late in the game.” -- Saint Jo coach Chad Tallon on his team only getting to play a half before a game is called by the mercy rule.

- Ponder pounds Lady Eagles The Valley View Lady Eagles had a rough outing in District 10-2A play Monday afternoon, falling to Ponder by the score of 18-2 in four innings.
- Whitesboro no hits Lady Leopards to open district play Opening District 9-3A play Monday afternoon, it was the Whitesboro Lady Cats who drew first blood.
- Outlaws improve to 3-3 The Cooke County Outlaws improved to 3-3 in their inaugural season in the Southern Conference of the Elite Football League with a 37-0 victory over the Arkansas Redhawks at home Saturday at Leeper Stadium.

- Lady Leopards' win punches playoff ticket The Gainesville Lady Leopards scored a pair of goals in each half and cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Wichita Falls Hirschi Lady Huskies Friday, giving the soccer girls the distinction of being the first GHS sports team to qualify for the playoffs this year.
- Lady Leopards mercy rule Muenster In their final tune up game before district play starts Monday, the Gainesville Lady Leopards produced one of their best offensive outings of the season with a 17-2 wins over the Muenster Lady Hornets in four innings Friday at NCTC’s Darwin Fields.
