LUCAS — The Gainesville Leopards opened the season with a 63-22 loss to Lucas Lovejoy Tuesday night.
Gainesville (0-1) only scored two points in the first quarter and were held to eight the entire first half. They were down 15-2 after the opening period and 32-8 at halftime.
Lovejoy completely put the game away in the third period, outscoring Gainesville 28-6.
Dakota Nichols led GHS with 5 points, D.J. Harris and Cody Welch each added 4, David Moore scored 3, and Kenyon Morgan, Harold Wills and Patrick Westbrook all scored 2.
Joseph Gonzales had 12 points to lead four players in double figures for Lovejoy.
Gainesville will be at home Friday to host Whitewright.

CELESTE — The Whitesboro Bearcats raced out to a 16-2 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 55-16 win over Class A Celeste Tuesday in their season opener.
Whitesboro (1-0) led 35-5 at halftime.
Matt Miller scored 17 points to pace the Bearcats, while Austin Cleland added 13, Zane Ferguson had 7, Joe Shepard scored 6, Cameron Clark and Jordan Gill each had 4, and Troy Willis and Dustin Dickson both added 2.
