Eight Cooke County football players recently were selected to The Associated Press’ 2009 Class A All-State football team.

Four Lindsay Knights and four Muenster Hornets were tabbed as either first-team, second-team or honorable mention selections for offense, defense and special teams.

The lone first-team selection went to Lindsay senior Ross Jones.

Jones was selected as a first-team kicker after going perfect on point-after attempts (33-for-33) while hitting 6 of his 7 field goal attempts in only eight regular season games. He also finished with 6 touchbacks on kickoffs.

Jones also was selected as honorable mention at wide receiver.

Second-team offensive selections went to Muenster receiver Jason Luke, who tallied more than 1,000 yards receiving in the regular season.

Muenster’s Jeremy Lutkenhaus was selected as second-team defensive line for his consistent play on the defensive front for the Hornets finishing with 66 total tackles, 6 sackes, 2 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.

Second-team punter went to Lindsay’s Ryan Haverkamp, who finished with a 42-yard average and six punts inside the 10-yard line. Haverkamp also was an all-state selection at punter in 2008 and was selected as honorable mention for his play at defensive back.

Honorable mentions to this year’s all-state team for both teams were Muenster quarterback Levi Trubenbach, who threw for more than 1,800 yards and added 626 more on the ground with 27 total touchdowns; Lindsay running back Frankie Cornett, who tallied 1,324 yards of total offense (835 rushing, 489 receiving) with 12 touchdowns; Muenster linebacker Dillon Bayer, who caused headaches for opposing running backs up the middle; and Lindsay linebacker Robert Arend, who finished with 92 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries.
