Wills powers Gainesville past Vernon

VERNON — Harold Wills’ huge night Friday helped the Gainesville Leopards pick up the win against Vernon.

Wills scored 33 points and hauled in 16 rebounds to help lead the Leopards to a 63-54 win, improving Gainesville’s record to 6-6 on the season.

Gainesville led 20-13 after the first quarter and took a 34-20 lead at halftime.

The Leopards scored just 6 points in the third quarter, but bounced back nicely in the fourth with 23 points.

Kielyn Lewis scored 12 points and added 4 rebounds while Kenyon Morgan scored 8 points with 6 assists and 3 steals.

Others chipping in for Gainesville were Cody Welch with 5 points and 11 assists and Denzel Johnson who also scored 5 points. Wills also finished with 4 steals in the game.

In the freshman game, the Leopards picked up the win over Vernon, 48-35.

Chance Sikes scored 19 points while Charlie Kirk added 12. Kennan Blacklock scored 7 points, Conner Markel had 6 and Brandon Keeling and Dequan Wilford finished with 2.

The Leopards’ next action will be at home today against Iowa Park beginning at 2 p.m.



Tigers roll past Bethesda Christian

MUENSTER — Kevin Kulle returned to the lineup for Sacred Heart, leading them with 25 points and 15 rebounds to help lead his team to a 70-45 win at home over Bethesda Christian Saturday.

John Krawietz also finished with a double-double, scoring 19 points while hauling in 12 rebounds.

The Tigers took an early 16-8 lead after the first quarter and held a 33-16 lead at halftime. Sacred Heart outscored Bethesda Christian 37-29 in the second half.

Sacred Heart (9-1) also got contributions from Patrik Mojica who finished with 5 points and 9 assists while Jae Kook Im added 9 points.

Garrett Berend and Greyson Evans each chipped in 4 points while Ian Barnhill and Matt Hesse each finished with 2.

“This is a senior laden team and they know how to overcome adversity,” said Sacred Heart coach Jon LeBrasseur. “We have played 10 games in 16 days and have faced double-digit deficits and injuries, and this team has never let up. If someone is having a bad game, there is someone there to pick up the slack.”



Sacred Heart picks up 11th win

MUENSTER — Kristin LeBrasseur scored 21 points with 8 steals while Kaitlin Hesse chipped in 8 points with 8 rebounds to help lead the Tigerettes over Bethesda Christian Saturday, 53-29.

Both teams were knotted up at 9-9 after the first quarter, but Sacred Heart pulled away at halftime with a 26-16 lead.

The Tigerettes outscored Bethesda Christian 25-13 in the second half to prevail.

For Sacred Heart (11-2), Kelsey Reeves scored 8 points, Sydney Hoedebeck added 7 and Rebekah Hesse finished with 3 points and 8 assists while Devan Henry, Taylor Reiter and Mikayla Bartush each had 2 points in the win.

“I am very pleased with where this team is at this time,” coach LeBrasseur said. “We are very young with only two seniors on the roster and five freshmen. To be 11-2 at Christmas is outstanding. We have a few more games before district and if we continue our improvement, we could be the team to beat in district and who knows what might happen in the playoffs.”
