Howe trumps Knights to advance to title game
The Howe Bulldogs will play Callisburg in today’s boys championship game of the Classic after knocking off Lindsay Wednesday night 62-53.
Howe contained Lindsay senior post Colton Hermes, who had 40 points in Lindsay’s opening round win on Monday, by holding him to just 2 field goals and 11 points. Hermes had three first-half fouls, making him unavailable for most of the first and second quarters.
Meanwhile, Howe used free throws and a couple of key 3-point shots down the stretch to put away the Knights.
Howe only shot 50 percent from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, but attempted 20 free throws to Lindsay’s 8.
The Bulldogs were led by Kenny Herbert’s 15 points followed by Matt Dowlen with 14 points.
Howe led just 8-7 after the first quarter and took a 20-15 lead at halftime. Howe used a 26-point fourth quarter to Lindsay’s 21 points to put the game away for good.
