MUENSTER — The Sacred Heart Tigerettes secured home court for the first round of the playoffs and took home the district championship after escaping the grasp of Abilene Christian Friday by the score of 58-50.
Abilene led 17-12 after the first quarter, but the Tigerettes exploded for 22 points in the second frame while holding their opponent to just 11 points as Sacred Heart led 34-18 at halftime.
The Tigerettes outscored Abilene Christian 24-22 in the second half for the win.
“Both teams played well and the difference was that we made eight more free throws,” Sacred Heart Coach Jon LeBrasseur said. “It was a playoff atmosphere with each possession so important to the outcome of the game.
“This squad continues to improve and who knows what might happen once the playoffs begin.”
Karli Anderle hauled in a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for Sacred Heart while Kristin LeBrasseur scored a team-high 19 points and added 6 assists and 8 steals.
Also scoring for the Tigerettes were Kelsey Reeves who finished with 9 points and Sydney Hoedebeck who added 7. Kaitlyn Hesse also chipped in 5 points in the win.
The Sacred Heart Tigerettes will host a bi-district playoff game at home Tuesday against Longview Christian Heritage. Tip-off for that game is set for 5:30 p.m.
Lady Hornets remain unbeaten in district
PETROLIA — Lana Heers scored a team-high 16 points and the Muenster Lady Hornets used a big second quarter to defeat the Petrolia Lady Pirates Friday night by the score of 65-43.
Leading 15-12 after the first quarter, the Lady Hornets drained nearly every shot in sight, scoring 29 points in the second quarter to help take a 44-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, Muenster (23-6, 9-0 district) put the game in cruise control, outscoring the Lady Pirates 21-18.
For Muenster, Shaina Felderhoff added 12 points, Lia Heers, Taylor Klement and Jackie Klement each scored 9, Allison Pagel added 5, Demi Koelzer scored 3 and Emily Hellman added 2.
In the JV game, Muenster defeated Petrolia 35-22.
Having already clinched the District 10-A title, the Lady Hornets will play their final regular season game against Archer City at home Tuesday night. The girls junior varsity tips things off at 4:30 p.m. Varsity should get underway around 7 p.m.
